LOL China's past shows otherwise. And we don't need to go back thousands of years. We can go back to previous conflicts in the last 60 years. All these things about China is benevolent and so on is all talk but actions speaks louder than words, especially when smaller weaker Asian nations asking for help from the U.S. instead of working with China like a big brother. Not today, Chinese navy does not posses a single AC. China still has a way to go before it can project power beyond its immediate littoral water. however, things might change in 20 years and china may acquire this ability without US or Russian interference.

Chinese military is still a very backward fighting force when judge from its ability to project power. It can pick on countries with virtually none existence navies like Vietnam and Philippines. But it still has work cut out for it if it want to handle countries with weak navies like Taiwan or South Korea.

Yes it is true that China has little power projection capability now.

However, China's technological capability and massive resources mean that it will quickly build up it's power projection capabilities.

2015 - Varyag battle group will be ready > This would give China a very potent capability to project a force with 50 combat aircraft, several advanced destroyers and frigates, relatively modern SSNs and around a force of 20,000 troops anywhere in the world.

2020 - Around several carriers with the real possibility of 100,000 tonne supercarriers ready or near ready. After the US this would be by far the most powerful power-projection force in the world.

2030 - Really looking at current US capabilities then
