China restores 800-year-old Buddhist statue

. .
I hope the magnificent Buddha statues in Afghanistan will be rebuilt with the help of China some day

That day will forever be remembered as one of the most disgraceful moments in human history.

The same people have been destroying history in Syria as we speak and, sadly, the US, Qatar, Turkey and other allies have been training and equipping those mentally ill murderers and rapists under the guise of bringing democracy to Syria.

Just imagine how much democracy would Qatar or Turkey be exporting to Syria.

It is why I never understood why China never stood by Indians when we were being butchered like animals by Pakistani terrorists on 26/11. Even they shot dead 2 Taiwanese people but China still today backs Pakistan when we have more cultural ties being a dharmic religion.

But I feel times are changing with Modi's visit to China, there is a new yoga centre opened up in China and Chinese newspaper have made a recent article on JUD whom Pakistan refer to as a 'charity' and the rest of humanity refer to as terrorists.

I would pick Buddhism/Daoism over other major organized religions any day for the majority of people to practice. I like secular traditions, but not the works of some not jobs who promise eternal life for butchering/converting people in this world. Do not get me wrong, I believe, at their initiation, all major religions were revolutionary and their founders were visionaries and liberators of their time.

Jesus sat down and ate with the poor, challenging the class inequality.

Mohammad upheld women's right and liberation, etc. All in the context of their time and to the point of their capabilities. Their messages/work carried on or not, that's another question. In most cases, however, the following religious classes hijacked the religions, as I understand it. Organized religion today is a menace because they seek political and monetary power. Religion should be personal, but never a state business.

As for the other point:

There are numerous reasons for the failure to normalize strategic relations.

1. Perception. Social media creates a very toxic environment. Feeling free form any repercussions, people disseminate false news and opinions of the other which make a very bad impression of each other In that, Indian media is really out of control in terms of spreading anti-China messages.

2. Geopolitics. Partnerships are shaped around present realities and both China and India seem to be under the pressure of external forces. Some hard choices have to be made.

3. Border/land dispute.

I guess, no 1 and 3, if solved in one way or another, would change the geopolitical situation rather dramatically.

China's first yoga college was established at Yunnan University of Nationalities in Kunming on Saturday, following a cooperation memorandum signed between China and India in May.

At the founding ceremony, Peng Jinhui, president of the university, said: "The university has confidence to build the college into an influential brand with its own characteristics, a platform for cultural exchange and a bridge for Sino-Indian friendship".

The thing about dharmic philosophy such as Hinduism and Buddhism is that it's not really a religion as such like Islam or Christianity where you have the concept of hell or heaven and the devil and God. There is a famous Rig Vedic poem on creation which I will post as it is interesting being quite contradictive in nature.

The Creation Hymn of Rig Veda
There was neither non-existence nor existence then.
There was neither the realm of space nor the sky which is beyond.
What stirred?
Where?
In whose protection?
Was there water, bottlemlessly deep?
There was neither death nor immortality then.
There was no distinguishing sign of night nor of day.
That One breathed, windless, by its own impulse.
Other than that there was nothing beyond.
Darkness was hidden by darkness in the beginning,
with no distinguishing sign, all this was water.
The life force that was covered with emptiness,
that One arose through the power of heat.
Desire came upon that One in the beginning,
that was the first seed of mind.
Poets seeking in their heart with wisdom
found the bond of existence and non-existence.
Their cord was extended across.
Was there below?
Was there above?
There were seed-placers, there were powers.
There was impulse beneath, there was giving forth above.
Who really knows?
Who will here proclaim it?
Whence was it produced?
Whence is this creation?
The gods came afterwards, with the creation of this universe.
Who then knows whence it has arisen?
Whence this creation has arisen
- perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not -
the One who looks down on it,
in the highest heaven, only He knows
or perhaps He does not know.

The last sentence is quite interesting

I like the teachings of Lord Buddha as he said do not dwell on whether God exist or not, the search of truth starts within each of us.

. . . . .
Gautama Buddha is said to have obtained Enlightenment (Bodhimandala) under what became known as the Bodhi Tree.

I am not sure about his incarnation as my understanding of Buddhism is rather limited to say the least.

But after Gautam Buddha came Guru Rinpoche, who was his re- incarnation. This statue is not Gautam Buddha, but Guru Rinpoche who was not enlightened in India and not even born in India.

.
Buddha was from Nepal.

Unfortunately Buddhism has basically been driven out of South Asia since then. Less than 1% of South Asia's population now.

Same reason the Indians here cheer whenever there is a terrorist attack in Xinjiang?

I've got some Indian members permanently banned for doing that on every thread.

I don't know Sir I thought you were asking where Buddha had enlightenment, these guys will be able to shed more light into this subject than me.

But Hindus still consider Buddha as a Avatar like Krishna or Rama and he is highly respected even though the population in terms of numbers is small in India. I share the pain of all people and nations that suffer from terrorism but I found it disheartening that when 26/11 attack occurred China was blocking sanctions being cast down on LET or JUD but in the end it agreed.

.
wow so many hands. buddism is the best religion. all countries with Buddhist beliefs are successful and happy.

, becareful now some old man was complaining about the word "stroking" i used for describing what a pet is.

Well, he may not act like it, but I am sure he is one tough old cookie.
If putting it into words offends him, perhaps he will find looking at a visual of someone 'stroking' a pet 'less offensive':
