India doesn't care about their children and children can become homeless strays, In China every child is precious and we want to make sure that they are always safe.

Did you mean every child's every thought is precious?

What's a "rasist" regime? Must be an India thing.

It's an originally Italian concept Romanised for our Chinese friends.

No, no, no! This is dystopically insane!

It is NOT.

It is the way forward. Over one billion people marching in lockstep.

When you are seven years old, you don't have much to decide.

Yes, we noticed that. But what happens after you grow up? Will you drop membership of PDF, for example?

.
Next...Children WILL be encouraged to report to their teachers on what their parents say and do.

I did not say that lightly. Every people in the world recognize the importance and impact that teachers have over their children. Care to guess who have the most influence over their children? The homeschoolers, parents who taught their children the basics of ABCs and 1+1=2.

Otherwise, it is the teachers next to the parents who are respected, revered, and even feared whenever a child is involved, and this went back hundreds of yrs in Asian cultures. So if a teacher -- under goobermint directives -- instructed the children to report on what their parents say and do, what do YOU think will happen next?

Prefect recipe for Stalinist society. Can fully understand now why people loved Stalin so much, while living in Gulags.

Its antithetical to me. You know me, I value the individual first and foremost.

But China can be another sobering lesson in putting top down state control if it so desires... the Chinese people in the end are responsible in making their voices heard. It might take a long while though...given just what was taken out of the Chinese during the century of humiliation....assuaging and rectifying that generally takes first precedence (among human nature) before the more deeper questions can truly be grappled with by society.

@Joe Shearer

There are three ways of looking at the original rights problem.

First, we can assume that an entire race, ethnic group, or religious group has entered into a social contract, and gives up its individual rights in exchange for safety and security; in the case of religious groups, an assurance that no matter how miserable the present existence, there is something radiant and celestial around the corner. This is largely 'idealistic', in the technical, philosophical sense of the word.

Second, we can assume that we are driven by material reality, that society is divided into classes, and that a class gives up its rights to the state, but still to the state, in order to gain control over material resources. Another superficially attractive proposition, another glowing image in the distance that turned out to be a mirage.

Third, we can assume that each of us as individuals has tacitly surrendered our freedom to the state, in exchange for certain well-defined limits to our complete freedom, but never extinguishing our core human rights. A state that violates this trust is an illegal regime.

Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer chice.

I also found those western media brainwashed guys so funny... (note: only for those brainwashed ones, most Bengalis are friends of ours.) Maybe some are living abroad and do not feel the hardship and misery of their countrymen, so they can talk shit like better to be a beggar with "freeeedom"....
The prison:
And the "freeeee world" :cheesy:

Explains Chinese mentality. @Nilgiri you were damn right in the thread where we discussed democracy and autocracy in relation to China and Bangladesh.

People like @Adam WANG SHANGHAI MEGA are at least brutally honest:

The Chinese government is the parent of all Chinese.

George Orwell anyone? Big brother? Try Big Father.

When you have invested the level of "beyond all questions" attitude that lot of Han mainlanders (esp those with means to interact in english language fora) have regarding their govt...it pretty much becomes a neo-religion, with its same collection of fanatics, priesthood and common laypeople and those fraying at the seams slowly...and even those that have left but pretend to still be "in" so they are not ostracized or worse.

Problem with neo-religions is the moralhood/authority is human-controlled and simply shaped by those which are most powerful, there is no deep acceptance that humanity is flawed and always will be and that perfection lies outside of it. What ends up happening in the long run is a hive mind extremist system (that needs a steady diet of free human spirit in exchange for giving authority)....i.e the be all, end all is the control and stability of society...rather than the individual rights of the worker bee.

@gambit often calls it the "goobermint" complex for a reason.

If we are being honest, then please do keep in mind that the Chinese have the right to a government they deserve, so who are outsiders to disagree with that right?

I have always said...

1- There is only one successful Marxist community: the monastery, which includes the nunnery.
2- There is only successful form of dictatorship: the family unit.

For item 2, the parents are considered to be at least all-wise if not all-knowing, and that finally, the dictatorship is a benevolent one.

We all know the warning: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

When Acton said 'absolute power' he meant it to be within confines where the ruler(s) govern without checks and balances. The ruler have no power outside those confines such as borders. The US president have no power in Great Britain, for example.

A person can gain power by taking it, by having it granted to him, or by both. Most dictators started by taking power usually violently, then as the situation gains complexity, having power granted to him becomes more and more a necessity rather than an option.

Power that is granted -- empowered -- is the best type. Simply put: "What are you complaining about? YOU gave it to me."

So when the Chinese people -- at least the Chinese members of this forum -- considered the Chinese government, indirectly the Chinese Communist Party, to be the benevolent parent of the country, people and land, we are seeing the submissiveness of a people that was indirectly warned by Acton. The more and more of the Chinese citizenry develop this attitude, the greater and greater the power of the Chinese Communist Party, no longer the government, approaches that of 'absolute'.

I don't use alipay or anything like that for a very different reason. Its annoying and tap based cards are much simpler and convenient. We have card readers everywhere I live.
I read your comments in this thread , classic mindset and understandings , There are a lot of people around the world who think the same thing as you, especially in areas of Western culture.
Broadly speaking, western thoughts and understanding are the mainstream nowadays. Even China is influenced by Western thoughts. But this does not mean that Western ideas are correct and progressive.
In fact, I can see from your remarks that the decline of the West is inevitable, the ideas are too old and pedantic.
There are too many malicious interpretations, too extreme things to reject and belittle, and unable to accept new things. This is the reason why the West is declining now, and why China was declining more than a hundred years ago.
Many things you (western)can't feel by yourself , in fact, we Chinese just listen to your words to know that you have fallen.
Just one small thing, you don't accept alipay, although your reasons are good, and many people think so . This little thing can reflect a lot of things. The psychological age of the West is too old. The only way to go is to die . Like the demise of the Qing Dynasty .

This is beyond stupidity, may call it delusion.

To be honest the core of your argument is "(some of)West=old=mainstream= Not progressive/ incorrect".

My take is simple. Not everything new is progressive or correct or for the lack of word 'better'.

For instance, I am all in to take a new for of payment which is embedded in my watch and does not asks me pin for small amount and i can tap and pay. Only if it is more than a particular amount, the reader asks me to enter pin. I will take it over a credit card or debit card in my wallet any day. In comparison, the phone payment that I hear all day along seems stupid to me. You unlock your phone and focus your camera, hold it still to pay, tap on screen to pay. Not to mention you bind your phone battery with your payment ability. Now thats what I call an 'Anti-Solution' : Something that looks like a better solution but actually it is worse than an existing solution.

Also for tracking children, I will like to have a solution where only a Parent can track their child till the age of say 10 years or till the child wishes. I will not like my child's school or anyone else to be even aware or be able to track my child. If I wish or my child wishes, they should be able to opt out of tracking completely. Its simple, if my child suffers a terrible fate whose skin is in the game? I bet it is mine and my child's. Will any particular beaurocrat will be hanged if something bad happens to my child? Unlikely. So why do I trust them with sensitive information about my child's safety. They have no skin in this game. Specially if I do not know who individually they are and I don't get a choice in picking them or vetting them.

Lastly, I don't believe in this naivety of "Government being a gentle parent and head of family'. Its simple baloney. Especially with a government which you cann't remove from power.
