It's not peaceful. It's called arson. And when you do it in the middle of a bunch of people because you're an attention whore who wants an audience, it becomes a police problem. If you charge at the police, you get put down.

Here's a tip: Tibetans are free to set themselves on fire in their own homes. As long as they have someone put them out when they're done and they don't waste government money with a hospital trip afterwards. That would be perfectly legal in China.
