China, partially a member of the developed world
2014-01-05

After over a decade of breakneck development speed and much speculation, China is matching the economic prosperity of the developed world. The signs of this expanding milestone can be found in the GDP per capita of a growing number of cities and provinces, according to our Chinese-language sister newspaper Want Daily.

Shanghai was an early starter, breaking the US$10,000 benchmark — the threshold for entering the developed club — when it recorded a US$10,529 GDP per capita in 2008. The figure rose further to US$14,095 in 2012. The record was quickly followed by Beijing, whose GDP per capita reached US$10,070 in 2009 and rose to US$14,442 in 2012. Next was Tianjin in 2012 with US$15,383 GDP per capita in 2012, the highest in the country.

Besides directly-controlled municipalities, GDP per capita in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Inner Mongolia also exceeded the benchmark in 2012. It is not a surprise for the two former provinces since they located in the highly-industrialized Yangtsu River Delta.

Inner Mongolia became the first province in western China to surpass the US$10,000 GDP per capita, excelling over south and east China's Fujian, Guangdong and Shandong provinces. Its economy has grown substantially over the past decades due to the booming mine industry and rising energy prices.

Several Chinese cities are geared to pass the US$10,000 threshold. Liaoning in northeastern China almost reached the mark in 2012 with US$9,352 GDP per capita and is likely to has exceeded it in 2013. Guangdong, Fujian and Shandong are also expected to follow suit in 2014.

Among prefecture-level cities, Macao and Hong Kong have the highest GDP per capita at US$74,914 and US$36,660, respectively.

And I can't see India in this list.

.
Congratulations . Lets hope it soon becomes complete .

. .
China's per capita GDP at market price(not PPP sh1t Indians love talking about:rofl:)will be north of 10000 USD in 2015。

Two years away and counting。

We are still one of developing countries, only 6200$ per man a year, at least reach 20000$ will step into low developed country

7100-7200 for 2013,4.5-5 times India's per capita income。

.
What? I see Tianjin is No.1 in the list.I only know Tianjin is the most inhabitable city in China as the Economist reported and now comes the good news about GDP.
Every thing are really cheap here and everyone can live good lives, that's the point.
In addition the environment is rather good, here are photos taken by myself.

He didnt post the complete list. Just till China.

India would be near the bottom of the list. Our per capita GDP is around $1500.
You are ranked 139 in this list and we are ranked on 143. India is a big country still our GDP per capita is good when comparing to your country :what:

Are you aware that being a big country is a big drawback when comparing per capita income?

Small countries with smaller populations are far easier to develop economically than big countries with big populations.

By all accounts Pakistan should have been ahead of India in GDP per capita and it was till 2005-2006. India crossed Pakistan in 2005-6.

.
It's really funny when you see Chinese member here boasting about being 2nd biggest GDP in the world...

But when UN ask China for contribution, Chinese release the "we are still developing country" and ask UN for development grant back

Funny isn't it?

.
Need still at least 40 years to become developed country. 2050 maybe

.
GDP per capita is still low but your economic growth and progress is suplendid..

.
developed??? Well, per-capita, we still have a long way to go.
