Once this dam is completed, and the reservoir is filled, the lake should be large enough (8.1 MAF) that the area around the dam should be developed into a Himalayan “Lake Como” and make it the most attractive alpine mountain and lake resort town. Compared to Lake Como, this reservoir should be somewhere around about 30-40% the size of that lake; decently large enough for all manner of water based attractions.

The revenue could help maintain this dam and increase tourism to the region and the country overall.

Under construction Diamer Basha Dam is a mega multipurpose project with 8.1 MAF gross water storage and 4,500 MW installed power generation capacity.

On completion, the project will irrigate 1.23 million acres land and generate 18 billion units green, clean and low cost hydel electricity per annum. A sum of Rs.78.5 billion is being spent on resettlement of affectees and CBMs in health, education and infrastructure development.
