China, Pakistan agree to uranium cooperation

Stop running your mouth because of a mere mention of your master.

This is economic colonization. Pakistan is 3rd world, genius. Obviously it's stock market will not be as valuable as NYSE or LSE. Does that mean we just give up and sell it at this stage? What else are we going to sell to China that we haven't already?

Normally you sell when you get advanced and big... instead we've sold when its at it's infancy. We've sold so much to them for pennies. This is called being far too dependant on 1 country. Anyone who isn't inept wouldn't need me to spell it out.

You are doing your name great justice. Only a fool would oppose Chinese investment, but we all know why your rear is on fire upon hearing China. Had it been up to you we would have put all our eggs in the American basket. I'm sure that would have been perfectly acceptable to you, right?

LOL at economic colonization. So, it is perfectly okay for us to invite the Yanks to destroy our own house, but it is bad when a country like China invests money to improve our stock exchange? I didn't hear from you when Pakistan was receiving economic aid from the US? Is that somehow supposed to be our end goal? Live on aid hand outs from the Yanks...

You think I need lectures from an American worshiper to understand that we are still a developing nation? Thanks for the valuable info.

Stop pretending that you can do things which China is achieving. Pakistan is nowhere near China and saying otherwise would be plain foolhardy. China has a lot to offer to Pakistan in every thinkable segment. Major Chinese companies are going to invest in Pakistan.

Yes, I'm thankful to China who is willing to invest and better the lives of common Pakistanis unlike daddy Uncle Sam who only knows how to blame. I'm glad you got nothing to say on this matter.

FACT: A big name risk model seller(they make mathematical models which predict future risk and sell them for thousands of dollars) were asked why they don't include Pakistani companies in their analysis. Reply: the data is garbage. Take this from someone who understands the stock market better than you: the KSX is a Ponzi scheme. Only brokers and their cronies make money here. I don't trust a single broker I'm this market. And given the situation of governance in Pakistan, I wouldn't trust it even after Chinese acquisition.

In other words, let's give it to the Chinese and not complain. Something good might come out of it. If not, it was definitely worth the try, but I'm an optimist.

Well, if we want the common man to benefit, we need good governance. That's key. If we want to make money, we need to impose taxes and duties on the Chinese. If we want the exchange rate to benefit, we need to make sure capital flow is through normal banking channels. Unfortunately, I don't think we are doing any of this. I don't know the details of the deal to be able to say anything with certainty, but the general recklessness with which our government operates, I doubt we would benefit much from it.

BTW, we are all clear that stock exchange doesn't necessarily lead to foreign investment of the type that benefits the country, right?

And that's you? Why are you so certain about what I do or don't understand.

Exactly. The worst part is, ownership is now foreign. Pakistani capital markets are a joke.

Well good that you're optimistic. China will probably just see it as a low cost purchase for an important thing. The concern is more long term than short term.

we learn and gain more experience from our chines counterpart.. slow and steady we can impose taxes and reduce debt at least they are investing in our country and its better than getting zero...

China, Pakistan agree to uranium cooperation
31 July 2017

China and Pakistan have agreed to cooperate in uranium exploration and mining. China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) said it had signed a framework agreement with the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission yesterday for technical cooperation in the exploration and development of uranium resources. China signed a similar agreement with Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

Under the new agreement, China's uranium industry will fully employ its technological advantages, its nuclear research institutes, nuclear chemistry industry, aerial remote sensing centre and other units in its cooperation with Pakistan.

CNNC, which said Pakistan is an "important bridge across the Middle East and South Asia", has already exported four 300 MWe reactors to that country and is constructing two 1000 MWe units. It said it is actively engaged in cooperation with Pakistan in uranium resources, nuclear technology applications, the training of workers and other areas.

In March, CNNC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Geological Survey regarding bilateral cooperation in uranium and thorium resources. Under the agreement, CNNC is to carry out exploration of nine potential areas in the Kingdom within the next two years. In late May, CNNC said it had completed the fieldwork phase and identified several target mineral areas for further investigation.

On 15 July, CNNC's Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia's King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology to collaborate in research on extracting uranium from seawater. According to that agreement, Saudi and Chinese researchers will conduct a two-year investigation.

No offence but when China sold non functional state owned companies to foreign firms cheaply in the 1980s and 1990s there was also uproar of opposition in China crying we were selling our country to foreign masters again and all those years of sacrifice in fighting foreign invaders went down the drain. But now not only we bought them back and we are buying their firms big time. It's a process that everyone has to go through if they want to grow. You will become strong and prosperous and that's something we like to see.
