Not really, China's per capita income is 1/4 of US and manufacturing cost of per iphone is not $500 in China.

I believe per unit cost is below $50. If manufactured in US, it would be around $200 max if not less.

But then again, how would rich continue to get richer, the hell with American workers and long term American interests.

The rise of China would have never been possible without the voracious greed of rich fat cat capitalists of the West.

Indeed there are every range and type of products of every quality and type of sensitivity.

Generally the government has gov certified brands and companies that are in some fields and from terrible to excellent private businesses and companies providing every level of sophistication and quality that the buyer wants to spend. That while doesn't apply to every field, there are many scammers and many diamonds. Scammers thankfully reducing compared to the past. When everyone was poor and struggling, more scammers. With comfort and luxury, it is so easy to say I am squeeky clean like western countries always pretend. Take them back several notch and they are no different to the worst scammers, liars, and thieves.

theres a long list of reasons, but labor price is only a small part of the top reasons.

after all china is like mid-70s or so out of ~200 countries and territories in terms of GDP per capita.

otherwise the west really would all go to india instead of just empty talk year after year.

India is dirt cheap, even cheaper than true up comers in Asia like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Philippines, and Thailand (a resurgent one that collapsed for a bit after Tiger economies got harvested in late 20th century by Wall street the cabal).

But India is not a player despite its cheapness and size. It has no logistics advantage over those up comers, it has little political advantage even. Workforce no more skilled and good for the capitalists of the West and the new money of East Asia looking to do the same thing.

China has good quality products for a decent price, including phones, electric cars (I would never buy a Chinese ICE car though) , various simple electronics devices and accessories. I buy almost all my stuff from Aliexpress and generally haven't been disappointed, although that's solely because I know how to search for good products and don't drop by crappy quality ones.

China has shit-tier products as well, which I have no idea why they even bother to make.

China became Israel’s largest source of imports in 2021 with $10.7 billion, overcoming the previous top spot held by the United States, revealed Israel’s National Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.

In 2020, imports from the United States had totalled a little more than $8 billion, while China’s imports totalled nearly $7.7 billion.

Imports from the United States in 2021 were nearly $8.3 billion.

Following the United States was Switzerland with nearly $6.6 billion and Germany following close behind.

However, the United States retained its spot as the top destination for Israeli exports in 2021 with $16.2 billion.

In September, Israel opened a Chinese-operated shipping port in Haifa to increase competition and the country’s status as a trading nexus.

During a visit in August, CIA director Bill Burns reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett that the United States is concerned about Chinese investments, especially in the high-tech sector and infrastructure projects.

Not really. Immediate labour costs generally do not translate directly into unit costs. In China most industries and the infrastructure backbone are advanced to the point they only contribute to a fraction of the price rather than the bulk of them.

Thats why despite all the talk in political motivated media, even after a decade of theather, barely any industries have actually moved from China over to India where income is 1/3 of China. They'd not get a phone for something around $15 because of that. Cost of maintaining utilities, supply lines, post production, etc in India on par with China are in fact higher since they often require additional expenditures or even have to be taken care of by the companies themself, like installing water treatment plants, water resservoirs to cope with water shortages, backup power to cope with power outages, developing you whole own carrier system etc. That doesnt even account in profit losses from power cuts, supply line problems, legal trouble, corruption, etc hat are legitimate concerns in India. Instead they are moving to Vietnam which is basically just replicating the China model if not literally just an extension of it.

Its just jingoism and constant political trashtalk that due to its intensity intrudes into every debates and shapes even ideas in the West. Pushing the labour costs angle, because the idea that some Chinese guy is slaving away for less money than an American guy is more comfortable to a Western audience of Western media, than conceeding China has more efficient infrastructure, more tried and tested law system, easy access to ressources for foreign companies, better supply chain management, stable economic outlooks, trustworthy and reliable government etc and produces at a scale some American burger flipper could never compete with even if he had all other elements at his disposal.
