China, Not US, Viewed As World's Leading Economic Power By Europeans
10/09/2014 @ 8:18
Back in 2008, a European median of 44 percent considered the United States the world’s leading economic power compared to 29 percent for China.
How times have changed. Perceptions have shifted considerably since the onset of the financial crisis, especially amongst America’s premier allies inEurope. In 2014, China is viewed as the world’s foremost economic power by France, Germany, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom.
In 2010, China surpassed the United States for the first time – 44 percent to 40. In 2012, it widened considerably to 57 percent for China and just 28 percent for the United States. Today, it has narrowed slightly but the margin still remains fairly wide. 49 percent of Europe perceives China as the leading economic power compared to 34 percent for the United States.
