BEIJING, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Shenzhou-15 taikonauts, who are currently on board the Chinese Tiangong space station, will conduct their first extravehicular activities within the next few days, the China Manned Space Agency announced on Wednesday.

The three-men crew have been living in orbit for 70 days since they entered the space station combination on Nov. 30, 2022. They completed various tasks, including in-orbit crew rotation with the Shenzhou-14 taikonauts, tests of scientific experiment cabinets, and spacecraft equipment inspections.

They also performed medical checks, weightlessness protection workouts and a series of space science experiments.

However, the past two months have not been only about work. The latest space station residents also celebrated the Chinese New Year and held space painting and photo exhibitions, sending New Year greetings to the Chinese people.

According to the agency, the Shenzhou-15 trio are now in good condition, and the space station combination is operating stably. All conditions are in place for the crew's first spacewalk.

The three Shenzhou-15 crew members are Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming and Zhang Lu. Their six-month mission is aimed at wrapping up the last stage of the space station construction and starting the first stage of its application and development.

China starts development of new Fengyun-3 meteorological satellites​

BEIJING, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The development of China's 4th batch of Fengyun-3 (FY-3) meteorological satellites has been launched, according to the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST) under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

Upgraded from the FY-1 series, the FY-3 series is the second generation of Chinese polar-orbiting meteorological satellites and is designed to beef up the country's global data acquisition capability to collect more information on cloud and surface characteristics.

They can provide atmospheric, land-surface and sea-surface parameters that are global, all-weather, three-dimensional, quantitative and multi-spectral.

The 4th batch of Fengyun-3 satellites is the final one of China's second generation of low-orbit meteorological satellites, consisting of a precipitation measurement satellite in inclined orbit and a satellite in sun-synchronous early morning orbit.

After the deployment of the 4th batch of FY-3 satellites, China will verify in orbit, for the first time, the collaborative observation of its meteorological satellites in high and low orbits, in an effort to support the intelligent observation system development of third-generation meteorological satellites, said the SAST.

China's space-tracking ship sets sail for new missions​

NANJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's space-tracking ship Yuanwang-5 departed from a port in east China's Jiangsu Province on Monday to conduct spacecraft monitoring missions.

This marks the ship's first ocean voyage in 2023 and the longest one since 2020.

Prior to the voyage, the crew members inspected the ship's onboard facilities and replenished their supplies for the upcoming mission.

China launches new communications satellite​

XICHANG, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday sent a new communications satellite into orbit from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The "ChinaSat 26" satellite was launched at 7:49 p.m. (Beijing Time) by a Long March-3B carrier rocket.

The satellite will mainly provide high-speed broadband access services for fixed terminals as well as vehicle-mounted, shipborne and airborne terminals.

The launch marks the 463rd mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.

China launches new remote sensing satellite​

JIUQUAN, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- China successfully sent a new remote sensing satellite into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Friday.

The remote sensing satellite was launched at 12:01 p.m. (Beijing Time) by a Long March-2C carrier rocket and entered its planned orbit successfully.

The launch was the 464th flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.

BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- The Shenzhou-15 taikonauts on board the orbiting Chinese space station Tiangong recently completed their second spacewalk, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

Fei Junlong and Zhang Lu, together with Deng Qingming who worked inside the space station to support his crewmates, collaborated to accomplish all of the set tasks. Fei and Zhang safely returned to the Wentian lab module.

The three-man crew have been living in orbit for three months since they entered the space station combination on Nov. 30, 2022.

The Shenzhou-15 mission wraps up the last stage of the space station construction and commences the first stage of its application and development.

They have completed various tasks, including two extravehicular activities, continuous maintenance of the manned environment, the assembling and testing of the scientific experiment cabinets of the Wentian and Mengtian lab modules, and sending cargo outboard.

The scientific experiment projects in the space station have been advanced as planned and have obtained initial results, according to the CMSA.

With the cooperation of ground researchers and astronauts, the experimental system in the Mengtian's combustion cabinet successfully performed its first in-orbit ignition test.

The test verified the functions of the combustion science experimental system of the space station and the accuracy and scientificity of the overall experimental process.

In addition, China's self-developed two-photon microscope successfully obtained the three-dimensional structural images of the astronauts' skin cells, providing a promising tool for the future health monitoring of astronauts in orbit.

The two-photon microscope was sent to China's space station last November onboard the Tianzhou-5 cargo craft.

More scientific experiments and extravehicular activities will be conducted during the Shenzhou-15 mission, according to the CMSA.
