China nears military parity with West; India watchful

Everyone has self interests, More so when a behemoth is a next door neighbor, Why do you think all of India's immediate neighbors have apprehensions about it ? You can argue about Bhutan but then again Bhutan is independent in namesake

Especially given China as rightly mentioned in this thread has achieved military parity with the West and most probably will be the most powerful nation by three decades

India's neighbors are apprehensive of India. It is reflected in their weakness. Let us look at India's neighbors one by one

Pakistan is locked in territorial dispute. There is not much anyone can do.

Bangladesh has settled down with respect to India. In the past they have been a lot weaker.

Nepal and Bhutan are landlocked. They will always be apprehensive.

Sri Lanka has issues with India over Tamils and foreign military bases. With the LTTE crushed and no bases for China India-Sri Lanka ties will be okay.

Mynamar is fine with India.

Maldives is fine with India.

The real complaint India's neighbors have is the inability to exploit Indian market for their economic benefit. It is a valid one.

Lol.. You're actually overestimating yourself, For example Pakistan and Sri Lanka's economic interests lie elsewhere, Especially in trade.. The reason of the apprehension is India's hegemonic past, It's been involved in disputes with all of it's neighbors at one time or the other since it's creation in 1947

Getting back to topic, China rise in the world and possibly being a super power wont be at the end of the sword or at the muzzle of a gun so to say but by the power of the Yuan.. The foundation is already laid hence the ruffling of the feathers by those that feel threatened

A lot of things that happened with India in the past are not likely to happen again. India's splitting of Pakistan in 1971 is unlikely given the nuclear status of India and Pakistan.

What is blueprint for Sri Lanka's economic future ?? What is the point for
Hambantota Port if you are not going to re-export to India ?

China have raw economic power. Other than inflating commodity prices and supplier of cheap products in some areas China has no impact on helping other countries

I always love the logic of the young! :)

dude @Beast is right are you kidding me comparing COIN operations with full fledged war. Just look at the equipment our soldiers are using. At the current state even Pakistan is too much to handle for India.

It's a case of once bitten twice shy

SL economy is not solely based on Indian transhipments

The Super power status is more like influence over the world. I don't think China has influence the least like France or Germany over the west

No one is saying China is a superpower, Least not the Chinese, But it's on it's way.. China's soft power will grow once it reaches developed nation status, Already Chinese cuisine to movies are common in every corner of the world and has been for a long time

If that was the case America should have won in Vietnam and Korea?

What is the point of Hambantota port terminals ?

Hambantota is more of a bunkering port than a transshipment port, Colombo the largest port in the region handles most of the Indian cargo.. You need to read up rather than going on hearsay

Anyway Hambantota will be the port of call for mainly Chinese trasshipents and exports from the planned industrial hub, Complementing the port infrastructure

Btw this is going off topic

it is hard to justify $1.4 billion investment for bunkering

To be fair the only threat theories from china are coming out of Western mass media and self appointed "experts" in India

Ok where would you expect to come from? China's free and transparent media?

it is hard to justify $1.4 billion investment for bunkering

Don't forget how Chinese subs and intelligence ships were within our boundaries, then fled to Sri Lankan ports when we gave chase. Speaks volumes about Sri Lanka....and if they choose to f-k around, we will kindly remind of the LTTE part II or something just as worse.

China itself
China's, left leg is bigger than all of Europe, right leg bigger than all of South America, left arm stronger then all of Africa, right stronger than India and headbutt from the upper torso could knock out USA. Who needs allies when China is one man alliance?

when was the last time that China had a military confrontation with any one?
They did not have much experiance in 1962 but that did not stop them from opening new holes in the Indian A*ss.

I suspect the Chinese can add she as prefix to the Indian male again today.

.
Let me ask you a question , when was the last time that China had a military confrontation with any one? 79?
If recent combat experience is so important important. Taliban fighter and Syrian army shall tank better than Indian army?

In gulf war I, Iraq shall have easily beaten back US coalition after their recent 8yeats war with Iran? You are just finding a lame excuse to play down China military.

As i have mentioned in my previous post, It's basically developed as a bunkering port, But with complementary infrastructure mainly for Chinese exports, Given the large scale industrial plans being made in the region

Also just a reminder to your compatriot espousing terrorism on other sovereign nations, That SL is not what it was like in the mid 70's completely unprepared for when the Indira Gandhi regime decided to sponsor terrorists for Indian hegemonic motives in the island, SL armed forces, It's intelligence apparatus and it's people have come a long way.. Infact it wont be LTTE II as he mentioned but LTTE IV, Because SL defeated Indian backed terrorists thrice before completely annihilating them in 2009

And another reminder for him if you please that nearly 2000 Indians went back in body bags for their misadventure along with pieces of one of your PM's
