China may match Obama support for India for UN seat

so what does China expect to get from India in return ?

Support on issues concerning developing nations,climate change,emission caps,maybe currency reforms too.

in fact what does US expect to get from India for all those "favors" it has been giving to India ?

They expect India to be another state like UK and France.I guess you know what i mean.

Can you throw light on the bolded statement? Is this a clause of the UNSC that Im unaware of?

The UNSC can only impose, remind of, or neglect the resolutions; it cannot scrap or modify an existing resolution. Scarping or modifying an existing UN resolution can only be done by all the parties concerned.

If UNSC resolutions on Kashmir be modified or scarped, it has to be done collectively both by India and Pakistan

So it goes like this:

None of UNSC 5 wants extra one to delute their power; particularly USA

India is still no one compared with even Brazil, let alone Germany, etc ;

But India behaves like a 5-year-old, wants to join in at any chance;

Everyone knows that at least 1 out of 5 will veto India at any time;

The USA wants to check-mate China with a cheap shot by "supporting" India's "ambition", knowing that China's veto would damage Sino-India relation;

The UK follows the US doing the same;

Both of them however know that China would veto;

Now China CALL USA BLUFF, by "supporting" India too.

So what would USA do in the end in such a case ? It will VETO! :rofl:

Interesting analysis, but keep the part about India being "no one" tightly buttoned up where the sun doesn't shine. When your "People's republic of China" joined the UN as a permanent member, what exactly was its status among world nations? Then your country had no problems behaving like a 2-year old cry baby, eh?

@Speeder... good reasoning up there... but the only downside I see with China vetoing is that it will heighten the tensions between India and China... and you already know who the other powers will side with given the current situation. With billions of dollar trade on the line, I would think this is not a probable situation.
This means that if the argument does reach a standstill, it will just raise tensions in Asia, nothing more.

Right....But correct me if Im wrong here, but India can veto any new resolutions on Kashmir that go against Indian interests....right?

'Ahsaan faramosh', China should voluntarily give up its seat.

You guys don't even have a permanent seat yet... and yet you're still lecturing us, that we should give up our seat? :rolleyes:

The more likely scenario, is that we'll keep our seat, and we will continue to veto whatever serves our own interests.

An endorsement from China for India's UNSC seat will go a long way in improving our ties. It would certainly be a warmly welcomed gesture and will lead to greater cooperation between the two.

^most likely. I'm judging by the way the Indo-US nuke deal was handled. The media was indeed informed about various details on who voted in what manner.

the United States used the veto on 13 occasions (11 regarding the Middle East, one Bosnia, one in 1989 following its invasion of Panama)

Russia/the Soviet Union used the veto on 4 occasions (two regarding Cyprus, one Bosnia, one Myanmar)

got this of wiki

You mean Wikipedia?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_veto_power

This says that Russia used the veto 123 times, the USA used the veto 82 times, etc.

China only used it 6 times in total. China prefers to "abstain" rather than veto.
