Is this supposed to be a big deal? Mars offers nothing to humanity. what will landing rovers on that planet do for any of us?

This thought process is exactly why Muslim world is in the dark ages, and America rules the world. There is nothing on the moon but rocks. Yet the space race catapulted America to the throne of the world. A lot of major technological breakthroughs(engines, computers, materials, communication etc) came out of the space program.

Landing on Mars is much harder, because Mars did have atmosphere but very thin.
