China makes major breakthrough in space propulsion technology

F=MS
1 Newton can accelerate 1 KG to speed 1m/s.
Rest you can do the speed.

Your math is so wrong in many ways, I don't even know where to start correcting it.
No wonder Vietnam lag behind China in technology. Cant even do basic maths correct. How to proceed to advance tech?

You are the one that needs schooling.
It’s not speed!
It’s acceleration m/s^2

F = m x a

Second the above statement. You are ignoring the fact that it is Zero Friction environment. so even that minor force will be sufficient to correct the orientation or re position the satellite
Ok I forgot the gravity in space is just a fraction to that on earth surface.

I think he meant acceleration, that's why he stated "can accelerate 1 KG to speed 1m/s".

It’s a weird way of interpretation.

If any, speed = acceleration x time

how many solar panels are necessary?

A great, great lot. And you have to put even more heat radiators.

But... 1N thrust from a HET is crazy high, an this is along with 70% efficiency, which is also extremely high for any electric thruster. This is why this is a breakthrough.

It means under 1y trip to mars for a probe sized spacecraft.

Don't think you are so smart. People who do rocket science are smarter than all of us here combined.

I know, but I am giving benefit of the doubt since he is not an English speaker.. But if you read his sentence, he clearly meant acceleration.. (accelerate to 1 m/s)

No problem bro
If he had mentioned how much time was necessary to gain the speed of 1 m/s given 1N and 1kg then I would haven’t commented.

:tup:

Maybe I am misunderstanding this but how is a one-year one-way trip to Mars a breakthrough ??

OTOH, the VASIMR engine promises a 40-day-to-Mars travel time.

Thanks for the correction.
That's indeed a typo.
Anyway I just want to pont out his math to calculate the power required is nonsense.
