China-led Asian trade bloc pushes ahead as India drops out

Japan was indeed the largest manufacturing country in the world for consumer products back then.

You need to know your rivals to beat them, a decade ago or so Chinese cellphones were unheard of even in China, nokia, ericsson, motorola... dominated the Chinese market, a decade passed now and Chinese phone markers Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo..emerged and killed all those giants. Challenges can only make you stronger.

There is merit to this idea but I think the timing of this couldn't have been worse. India is going through its worst phase in economic terms and such a move would kill any confidence left in domestic industry.

But if Indian sectors have to up their game, they need get out of their comfort zone and only way to do that is to open the market so they have to compete to remain the best.

India will join, only when economy stabilizes a bit.

we need to improve upto international standards.
But it seems like this time is being used to lighting the chinese made firecrackers for diwali, mass-production of cow-vigilantes, patanjali urine products and stone-blocks for ram mandir while while Modi inaugurating the 'Sardar Patel Statue aka Unity Statue' made from Bronze-cladding imported from China (Unity through China). Made in India in full swing, now i know what it means 'Modi hai to mumkin hai'...:welcome:

You really don't know how the Chinese market was flooded with all foreign products of everything and how millions state owned factories were out of business and closed down and how tens of millions being laid off and hundreds of millions can't find a job in China. Believe me, we experienced the worst that you guys can't even imagine.

I understand India can't take drastic policies to kill everything and rebuild the whole industries all over again from the basics like China did 40 years ago, that will throw your current government out of power in no time. You guys can find a middle way to do it.

If its true, why China so reluctant to open up what India wants in return? This has been noticed for a good 10 years or so now outside of RCEP (in direct trade talks between India and China). Apply the argument on yourself first, before you try use it on another. China has certain sectors it does not have competitive advantage in (still) and simply keeps that shielded just the same.

Yeah, you are just one....and also one stuck thinking in neo-superstition of your own making on it.

UNICEF and everybody else is just obviously fabricating when they measure and sample directly at scale on the ground.

I think RCEP was pretty much the one and only venue for direct trade talks in between India and China in recent history. None now.

Agree with most of your post except the last line. The negotiations have been on for many years, we had enough time for major economic reforms.
We will never be ready, we just have to get on with the schedule as enough time has been spent post 91 in shaping up the private sector.
Although I think one of our legitimate concerns was around not getting an equal access to the service markets in the ASEAN/ANZ/China markets, which is a deal breaker considering that we are competitive there.
But obsession with domestic manufacturing and protectionism will benefit no one.

China didnt open up? You produce crap that no Chinese want to buy. Your services industry is in English. Get it?

Long term national interest for short term political gain, a game called "democracy".

India is a proper American poodle. It is clear where the instructions came from.
