China Leads Race to the Moon

It is just myopic to say Americans have already won the race after setting feet on the Moon half a century ago

There are still a million things you can do to lead the "race" again on another perspective - like landing on the Moon by a different landing approach; like staying on the Moon for an unprecedented period of time; like surviving in the hostile environments in a new set of life-sustaining suit or equipment; like landing on the Moon at the same time by more human beings; like creating a permanent base on the Moon suitable for the living of human beings, or growing plants; like finding new minerals on the Moon which the Earth does not have ...

I agree with you, China takes a pragmatic approach to space explorations, e.g. natural resources.

However, I believe US and Japan will continue to lead in terms of cutting edge techs, and more importantly, vision. We might have late mover advantage to close up the gap with US in the last few decades, but I personally think that unless we drastically reform our education/research system, the best minds on this planet will always blossom in the US/Japan school campuses, may those minds be born in US Germany Lithuania or even China.

Our hard working and industrious people brought us to today's level, but moving up needs not just an industrious spirit but brilliant minds, and that's what we can't manufacture.

Wait and see what the Chinese can do. They do things in steps. The upcoming phase will be innovative. Btw, I went to school in the west, believe me, their education system is good but there are flaws like everywhere else. Once you pass the test, you forget what you learn or do not care. :enjoy:

There is nothing wrong with being industrious. China's neighbors are trying to become industrious but theyw ill not be as successful as China. China led the world in science, technology and economy for millennium, they will do so again within the next 30 years. You're too pessimistic.

lol this thread is funny, apprently noone here heard of the Outer Space Treaty signed by all 10 Space exploration nation and 92 other nation...

The treaty stated the exploration of moon and any celestial object should be straightly for the benefit of all mankind and strictly prohibit exploration and ownership of any celestial subject.

As long as those H3 are in the moon, then none of us are able to get them. The US does not just pagamatic about moon resource exploration, but it was outright forbidden...

Iol it US is allowed to mine the moon would you think the moon would have been already mined out by now? Given that there are 40+ years between US landed on the moon and the next landing by other country...lol
Hence , this race can never start as none of us were permitted to start...

When China send a man to the moon they will find out if the moon landing from 1967 was done in a Hollywood studio or not. Wait and see.

I wouldn't say I am pessimistic. In contrary, I want us to be humble enough to see our shortcomings and deal with it, not blindly satisfied on our current progress. Our education system, IP protection, etc., need to improve drastically so that we can truly excel. We can manufacture hardware, no problem, we are industrious and diligent. However, we need a soil for bright minds to shine, and get protected by law.

Don't get me wrong, I love my country, and optimistic that we will excel. I for one get tertiary educated in this country, and get exposed to the international business by working in a large state-own corp, all thanks to my country. My fellow Chinese, see our shortfalls compared to US/Japan, reform ourselves, and excel. .

I dont think we are losing sight of our shortcomings or neglecting our strong points
We should have a balanced point of views but repeated comments on the negative parts are unfair to our many talented scientists, devoted educators or ingenious engineers

Thanks for your compliment to my country.

You are right, being industrious is not a negative notion. JP and 4 dragons have completed industrialization earlier than mainland China, and now all are advanced economies. China should continue to industrialize, it serves as a strong foundation to further move up ladder

After General Yamamoto visited US, he was shocked by American industrial capability and voted against Pearl Harbour. Today, what a Chinese should see in US/Japan is not industrial capability, but vision, creativity, inspiration, open mindness. We should quickly reform ourselves to allow the best minds to grow, to prosper, allow the bravest spirits to venture and explore the unknown. That's my point, not pessimistic, but carefully optimistic.

You are right, let's put our hands together for those scientists/engineers who have made things happen, good work indeed.

Now let's wish our educators and law makers can contribute their efforts in scientific explorations, let's do it guys, you can.

Sure as long as that moon landing isn't in a Hong Kong studio. :-)

Hey if people have doubts about the U.S. landing I guess we should all have doubts over any Chinese landing. :-)

Fairs fair you know...

That's not the point ... you mentioned HK studio ... why is that?
