China Launches World's Fastest Cargo Trains

(Yicai Global) Dec. 23 -- CRRC has debuted the world's fastest cargo trains that can reach a speed of 350 kilometers per hour in northern China.

The state-owned rolling stock manufacturer launched the new technology in Hebei province's Tangshan today, the Paper reported.

It took more than three years for the Beijing-based firm's Tangshan unit and its partners to develop the super-fast technology. The carriages will be used in freight transport with a range from 600 kilometers to 1,500 km.

The coaches can carry at least 110 tons, or over 800 cubic meters of cargo. The related utilization rate is 85 percent. The units have been installed with 2.9 meter-wide doors, resulting in the widest cargo train exits.

The high-speed trains feature mobile data connectivity and make use of China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System to help load and unload cargo accurately.

SHIJIAZHUANG, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- A bullet freight train with a maximum operational speed of 350 km per hour was rolled out in Tangshan, north China's Hebei Province, on Wednesday morning.

Delivered by Chinese train maker CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd., it is the first freight train in the world to reach the 350 km/h speed threshold, according to the company.

The train is equipped with 2.9-meter-wide loading doors to ensure speedy loading and unloading. The utility rate of cargo space on the train is 85 percent.

The shape of the locomotive resembles a Chinese sturgeon, a design that has greatly reduced running resistance.

During design and construction, big data, cloud technologies and genetic algorithms were applied to realize the smart distribution of the loads, according to the company.

CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd. is one of China's major high-speed train manufacturers. The city of Tangshan has also established an intelligent rail transit industry alliance and an innovation and development center for the rail transport industry.

A China-Russia route for East Asia-Europe freight traffic maybe competitive for certain high value/time sensitive products

Any photos of them actually carrying freight? The photos are all of passenger trains.

The freight carriages are pretty tiny then compared to traditional freight trains.

They seem to be for lighter mail freight/parcels and other smaller freight that can fit through those smaller train doors. Not for the large heavy freight of cargo ships and large transport/cargo planes.

.
Those trains are for e-commerce parcels. France has TGV Post. High speed railway needs maintenance very night and then the first train will run empty to verify everything is ok. It can be replaced by this freight train.

MORE posts on the new generation of high-speed cargo trains developed by CRRC Tangshan Co Ltd are put at the China's HSR main thread of "China HSR News And Information: Original Translation" -- now already at Page 237 :P

This is for high value medium speed goods for faster than truck, heavier than plane loads like e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, scientific equipment, etc. that are expensive by air but need to be faster than ground truck.

Also as the tweet points out; Military goods; spare parts, entire weapons systems, etc.

Considering how extensive China’s rail network is; every city with a population of at least 100K will get a high speed train station, this would allow them to maximize the utility of their investment.

Rail is most profitably used to transport freight, so considering the high speed line is already built up to Urumqi, a deal with Russia to build their high speed line from Urumqi to Europe, through Russia, would be win win for both China and Russia, as well as East Asian and European Importers/Exporters. Russian and Chinese allies like Belarus could get the line going through them, and it would provide them with reliable funding for the use of a line. Poland might be harder to convince, but their pro-business outlook would convince them to go for it; and then once in Germany, its smooth sailing.

The expected revenue from freight could more then funding line, and for Pakistan, make export to Europe through the Karakoram Highway (or a rail line) to a Chinese rail connection in Kashgar potentially economical feasible; especially if we diversify into the industries that need timely delivery.

P.S. If Pakistan plans to build a train line to China, it should use the gauge used in China, so that time is not lost on the border (at high elevation) moving cargo over. I would hope they could have switched to standard gauge for the entire Pakistani railway network, but if they won’t, they should do it at least for the connection to China.
