RUIAN, China, June 4, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A couple in southern China has been fined 1.3 million yuan ($210,450 USD) for giving birth to their sons baby sister, a record fine under the Communist countrys one-child policy.
Chinese officials reportedly calculated the fine by the wealth of the unnamed couple, who have stakes in several businesses. One report cited by Brimbank Weekly said that the figure stunned the couple, but they paid the fine.
Repercussions for unauthorized children in China routinely include crushing fines as well as forced abortions and sterilizations.
