I think we should do the opposite, increase your relation with neighboring countries especially when you have somewhat good economy and influence on world scenario. Why let China make their seaport as naval base where we can do that?

We are investing $ 2 billion in Afghanisthan which is too far and Pakistan lies in between, where as there are countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmmar.

Lets offer so much assistance to them they remain as our satellite(additional) states. It will increase our influence. At least we have to learn to become a leader of these country than as for permanent membership in UN. Mauritius is giving two islands, take it, develop it, establish base in Maldives, you will have another "unsinkable aircraft carriers" like Andaman and Nicobar near to Africa (near Arabian Sea).

Its the only way we can establish over influence on Indian Ocean which is going to be major factor in 21st century. We are churning out so many ships and aircrafts that by 2030, we may have 2-3 additional defense forces of size of small country like Bangladesh.

I don't know enough about India-SL issues to comment on those. Except, in general, if the Tamils in SL are really discriminated against then the Tamil population in SL is right to feel agitated and would try to influence the central Indian govt. Morality is very important--we tend to become bean-counters and talk about 'real politic' but I don't think we should ignore issues of humanity.

honestly We don't care Indians either, it's not hate or anything. it's just like that. Let's say India has helped 10 times, China has helped just one time but China's one and only help is a great thing for them. It's just like that....! Sri Lankans don't trust India too much.

No doubt SL is currently fastest growing south asian country. But you need to spread your loan resources, allowing only 1-2 country to rule on you, will make you its slave.
See they don't offer you aid they give you loans at low rate..someday u will have to pay..
growing steadly is the best way for any country..

Not only China, there are many other countries involved in our development!
Colombo-Kandy Expressway project is handling by Malaysia.
There are 2 monorail projects, one project is handling by Koreans.
UK is handling some projects/ bridges
Tourism related some project went to Singapore
France also involved in some projects
Jaffna Kandy Expressway about to start end of this year it will go to Malaysia /or China

Well, I don't hate India or any Indian including Tamils from Tamilnadu, India. What we are focusing on right now is the development, to obtain more better living standards we have to choose correct partner at correct time.

India is struggling and even it cannot maintain their own people or not showing better living standards majority of its citizens, so SL need to go with China which is the best performer at this moment. And also we have to keep good relationship with USA with out upsetting next superpower China. It is up to our leaders to keep Sri Lanka away from south Asian politics as much as possible!

You are right you can go to China for help we have no objections.

There is no need for India to worry about Chinese influence in Lanka, after all they can never tow their island to China.

Its very amusing to see our fellow Indians to fall head over heels when they hear about Chinese influence as if the sky is falling down. We do not have hurry and out do China in every thing.

Chinese are shrewd business men. They give X amount of loan and bring Chinese company employing Chinese people to implement the project. That X amount still stays in circulation with in Chinese economy. Lankans will repay loan X amount with interest. Finally Chinese gets 2X plus interest. Lankans are oblivious to this drama.

Chinese are great in building ghostly things, first they build ghost cities in their own country and now they build ghost ports like Gwadar in their friendly country. Hope Hambantota will not get added to that list.

What India has to do is to help Sri Lanka economically what it can and just do not enter into the **** measuring contest. Make sure the Tamil Lankans are treated as equal citizens otherwise Eelam is assured.

Let the Lankans play their game. Soon they will get the taste of Chinese medicine. Remember Chinese best friends are their worst loathers and it is not without reason. India has so many cards to play while the Lankans have only one China card and when that busts it will hurt them most.

Indian does have non-interference policy in other country's internal affairs, but this does not apply to Lanka. Lankan Tamils are Indian Tamils brethren. India just has to co-operate with the international initiatives, Lankans will eventually realize the truth when its time, after all even the LTTE terrorist ruled for many years, so a more powerful Lankan Army will rule for some more time.

Thats fine....but sad thing is Pakistan failed miserably to control Indian backing insurgency in their own soil. In that aspect SL is stronger and powerful than Pakistan. From now onwards Pakistan shouldn't claiming that you having super duper army in muslim world. Just learn some lesson from those Islanders , don't be cheerleaders always .
