you are very correct, if you read WIPO's annual nation's competitiveness, it puts India at the very first stage of economy and society development, which is primitive factor driven society just like the same of those least developed sub-saharan countries..so basically it means, India's economy is driven by weather, resource and commodity prices, in short as you wrote sub-sustinence farming societythe answer is obvious: it doesn't do manufacturing at all. Indeed, the vast majority of India's population is in something i call sub-sustinence farming. India is at the level of Senegal right now, and has a while to go before it reaches even Nigerian level.

what can be debated? world economy is slowing rapidly, and it affects china's export sectors, but still grows at 11% more (driven by domestic sector), why need to debate common sense?
things like 'shining' 'technology powerhouse' 'IT superpower' 'second to none' 'indigenious rocket, planes, tanks and missiles' are very debatable
