BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has helped 10 countries to evacuate 225 nationals in conflict-ridden Yemen on Thursday, following its own evacuation of 571 Chinese nationals.

Linyi missile frigate, carrying the 225 nationals of 10 countries, departed the Port of Aden in Yemen for Djibouti at 16:25 on Thursday, Beijing time, a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The people come from Pakistan, Ethiopia, Singapore, Italy, Germany, Poland, Ireland, Britain, Canada and Yemem. The evacuation is at the requests of these countries and is humanitarian aid in nature, the press release said.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the evacuation, with the foreign ministry coordinating relevant countries and People's Liberation Army Navy dispatching warships to Port of Aden immediately, it said.

Chinese embassies and consulates in Yemen and Djibouti overcomed difficulties and made arrangements, going all out to organize a safe evacuation, according to the press release.

Chinese warships have also helped evacuate 8 foreigners from Romania, India and Egypt during its evacuation of Chinese nationals, it said.

Why does Pakistan always depend on China for everything? Why can't it send it's own naval ships and aircraft to evacuate its citizens?

In contrast India has sent several of its warships and C-17 Globemasters to evacuate Indians stranded in Yemen.

We help evacuate citizens from UK and Germany too, which doesn't mean they are weak countries.

@OrionHunter we sent two of our ships but they cant take all the passengers at once we had like 3000 citizens there and most of them were stuck in aden and sanna
a chinese vessel was nearby so foreign ministry asked china to assist

And Indians will regard Pakistan as an invalid just because you ask for help. It's their insecurity that cause this criticism.

A Pentagon spokesman, Major Roger Cabiness, said he was unaware of any orders received by the military to aid an evacuation.

The State Department, whose representatives would not speak on the record, evacuated all its staff from the country after halting embassy operations on 11 February – but indicated that US citizens still in Yemen were on their own.

“We have no current plans to evacuate private US citizens from Yemen. We continue to watch the situation closely,” a State Department official told the Guardian.

“I have not heard that we are considering proactively asking other countries for help,” she said.

The State Department spokesperson stressed the United States has been warning US citizens for a decade not travel to Yemen.

Harf explained that given the situation in Yemen now is “dangerous and unpredictable,” doing something like sending in military assets even for an evacuation could put US citizens lives at greater risk.

“We are continuing to evaluate the security situation and we are continuing to look at what the options are, but at this point no change in plans,” she said.

Washington is aware of the reports that a US citizen was killed in Yemen on March 31, she added, and is working to verify the information.

in my opinion Pakistan was being pragmatic and all that matters was those people went home safe.

China’s Navy warship, ‪#‎Linyi‬, arrived in East Africa’s ‪#‎Djibouti‬ port after sailing for nearly 8 hours on Thursday.

Show of Force:Chinese Navy Rescues Foreigners from Yemen's Aden

In an unprecedented move, the Chinese military sent a warship to Yemen to evacuate 225 foreign nationals from the conflict-ridden country.

The operation marks the first time the Chinese military has helped other countries evacuate their citizens from a war zone. A statement released by the China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said evacuees were picked up from Aden, Yemen’s second city, and transported across the Red Sea to Djibouti, from where they can take flights home. The naval frigate was redirected there from the coast of Somalia, where it had carried out anti-piracy patrols.

The evacuees consisted of nationals from 10 different countries, the majority of whom were Pakistanis, at 176. Chinese State television showed the foreign nationals aboard the naval frigate arrive to Djibouti, with footage showing children stepping off the warship and waving Chinese flags.

"China has been keen to learn from the experience of other countries on how to evacuate people, especially after Libya," A senior Western diplomat in Beijing said to Reuters. "It’s good to see China taking more of an interest in this."

Yemen has become the site of intense conflict since last September, when Iran-back Shiite Houthi fighters seizes the capital city of Sanaa from Saudi and American-backed President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. A Saudi led bombing campaign against Houthi forces has plunged the country into more violence, as UN reports estimate that over 500 people have been killed in the past two weeks and more than 1,700 injured.
