China EV/NEV Makers December Sales Figures

Has anyone heard of a monopoly market being more efficient than a highly competitive one for consumer goods?

Is a market with only Yugos better than a market with Nissan, Toyota and Honda?

China's market may eventually consolidate into several big makers. I think, at least in the fast development phase, to have multiple entries is good from the perspective of innovation.

It's probably going to look more like the Japanese market which has a diverse mix of Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Mazda and Subaru.

Cars are a consumer technology like phones which benefit from market competition. It's not like industrial technology which relies on standard setting and consolidation.

I agree. In the Japanese case, those big players also have extensive ties with heavy industry giants, as far as I know, such as IHI, Fuji, Hitachi. I think relatively smaller ones like Subaru or Mitsubishi cannot survive without a larger parent. In China EV case, I would like to see such Zaibatsu-like conglomerates. Not extensively, but to some degree.

China does not have the same corporate culture as Japan because of very different cultural background. it's like saying Russia is the same as UK. Japanese and Korean corporate culture is very similar due to their common roots in Japanese fascism while Chinese corporate culture has its roots in traditional Chinese and Southeast Asian culture.
