China drops tariffs on hundreds of Pakistani products as wide-ranging trade agreement takes effect

All the best. I pray Pakistani exports to China increase at least by $1 billion annually but not at the expense of price increases in Pakistan due to shortage.

Lol.. who will come to your country to invest with this practice?

First of all you need a stable country with the right infrastructure to support such investment. Pakistan do have a decent population but unstable government and unconvincing policy that can support long term investment.

China with one party ensure long term stability which policy which allow them to operate without fear of ever changing environment that will harm their investment.

You really think China partnership with foreign countries will received 100% technology transfer? In fact, China spend a huge amount of money and research to find out the remaining core technology which they will never transfer to you.

Man...Pakistan posters are appreciating this step from China. Why are you getting upset without any reason????

The trade agreement is in significant favor of Pakistan.

You should use your NRP and friendly Gulf countries to invest in manufacturing base in these SEZ that can be used as a manufacturing hub to export China, India, Central Asia and Gulf countries. You are uniquely situated in the middle of big economies like China, India, Gulf and Central Asia

I literally said it was your model and you laughed saying who would come?
is Patriotic education the ONLY subject taught to you guys in school?

And China sure was secure after Tienanmen.....
And anyone can force "long term stability" but the thing with force is that eventually it breaks.

I never said we will receive 100% technology transfer, I said we should take the technology they do give and steal the rest. Just like china did.

When did Pakistan change to China model since election and frequent change of party happens?

Finally, you really think China advancement in technology is by stealing? Thanks to western media for your understanding....

I don't know. Sounds like his his reply is full of pessimistic and non appreciative of this change implemented.

No many Pakistanis are appreciative, I wish we could integrate closer to the Chinese economy. The problem is our industrial sector never takes advantage of these trade deals, they need to be kicked into action.

I keep saying this but we need to implement Chinese model.
Get Chinese investment to come in and set up factories, that are owned and operated by locals and force them to give us their IP (or steal it).

China has been very successful with their model and Pakistan needs to use it too.
Just stealing it alone won't help it has to be backed capital ,Chinese companies are backed by their govt and some are financed and run by CPC members that's the reason they made big

China having been milking Pakistan with high interest loans. when are they going to setup industries in Pakistan which they promised long time ago? So much talk but no actions...

Rest assured that Pakistanis exporters and industrialists will not take advantage of this and instead do more rona dhona infront of government for more subsidies and incentives

This is why the government needs to attract new industrialists, especially from the overseas Pakistanis/diaspora, to these special economic zones. If the government can have solid institutions to guard people's investments, Overseas Pakistanis can put some money planned for their retirement into investing in new industrial ventures, rather than 401K or other plans that may not grow as much over the next 30 years.

These old time industrialists need to be sidelined if they don't get with the program, but sidelined by being marginalized; by becoming a smaller and smaller share of the exporters as new investors become a larger share, thereby reducing their influence, and allow needed reforms to take place.

Pakistan needs to make itself investor friendly, there are a lot ways to attract FDI, and considering our population size, and the amount of development that is needed, IMHO, If Pakistan can attract $10-20 Billion Annually for the next 20-30 years, between wages, taxes, and supply chain integration, Pakistan can sustain the growth needed to get to a $2 Trillion economy by 2050 as in the World Bank Report.

Its a virtuous cycle, If Pakistan can bring sustained growth up to at least 6% annually (ideally at least 8% for the next 30 years), it will look like a better place to earn higher ROI, and naturally many foreign investors will come.

Economic development, after security, needs to be the top priority of every government official. Even in local areas, encouraging maximum recycling, and cleanliness will make the country more efficient, create jobs, and bring raw materials back into the industrial process.

Technical training is one way Chinese workers are more attractive to attract building a factory in their region. Also, we only have a small window of the next 20-30 years to do all this, because we wont have this Demographic Dividend forever, the average age of our population is younger than many nations, and with human capital development, we can have a very attractive workforce for foreign capital to partner with.

For those that say we should steal investors technology, are undermining the whole point of attracting investors. You don't have to steal others technology, but learn from them, innovate and bring to market your own products that can feed into the eco-system that initial investors product created. for example, If a Chinese company starts to make smartphones in Pakistan, then our companies should learn to make accessories or Apps, that don;t compete on price, but on uniqueness. Apps that are catered with our unique knowledge of the customers can help us win customer share.

Where we should be insistent is one value added industries of our raw materials, such as mining. If we discover a large lithium mine, we should insist investors build the batteries, and all the parts in between in Pakistan. We wont get the technology right away, but our local industry will learn to feed that supply chain, over time, that supply chain can be augmented with investments by local companies to customize products from that supply chain for foreign markets, especially industrial machines.

If you look at the exports of many industrialized nations, its exports of machinery, computers, and other elements of a supply china where one country specializes, that it exports.

So don't think of stealing, but learning and developing an eco-system around initial investments. Don't compete locally, but export to the world. Our GDP is around $300 Billion of which only 9% is from exports. The global economy is nearly $90 Trillion. We are therefore only 0.33% of the global economy, we need to be looking at overseas customers.

You can'tget their IPs or steal them, neither did China make it.
Copycat and pirating is just bad side effects of huge manufacturing capability and immature demostic market and law enforcement. It's never something China planned or wanted. It hurts China herself the most because it it hurts China's innovation pace.

You are aiming at the want wrong target if these are all you care about to learn China model.

Talking China model, I think the next successful country will be Vietnam for sure.
Vietnam has similar tradition, culture and mindset (like diligent, endurance, family values, generous on education etc...) @AViet

I don't know much about Pak, if your are interested pls share your thoughts about what applies and what not applies to Pak to introduce China model.

We should also learn from the failures of India. They also have a huge demographic Dividend, and some of the best universities in the region, but failed to reform enough to develop an industrial manufacturing base needed to have a sustainable, adaptable, economy like China. Yes, we are taking on a lot of debt to make CPEC happen, but we need to keep in mind the only way to make CPEC work is make the reforms and fundamentally transform the nation. If we fail to reform, in 10-15 years, China will move on to countries in Africa, where there will be more young people, close to raw materials, that they can do the same thing. We have a small window of 10-15 years to change, otherwise we only have to look at India to see what a failure to properly and fully reform looks like.

I know that but our exporters and our nation in general have not been able to benefit from these waivers . Neither we utilized oil bonanza in previous term . Not we utilized other benefits such wot or other American funding . We are just not in the habit of utilising these.
Beacsue from now now government has set the stage and its exporters who would take it now .
I do not recall a more business friendly government in Pakistan than this one. Even the so called industrialist leaders did not implement policies that favoured business and trade the way this government has. I am optimistic that the business community will take advantage of this opportunity.

Oh so you expect we give handouts and spoon-feed you? What expert advice can you give? China shall give Pakistan USD100billion, so the parasite can grew bigger?

Instead of China generous tariff waiver. Maybe China shall increase by 100% to wake you up.

Please don't talk just for the sake of talking. Your comment helps nothing for Pakistan.
Calm down man. Why such a confrontational attitude? Nobody is asking for handouts. @Pakistansdefender is just hoping that Pakistani exporters make use of this opportunity.
