BEIJING: China has dropped its aggressive stance on Arunachal Pradesh and other contentious issues in the first ever Blue book on India. The book has been carefully crafted to avoid expressing grouse on issues like the border dispute and the presence of the Dalai Lama in India.

"The purpose of the Blue book is to inform ordinary Chinese people about the rise of India as a fast developing and powerful country. The tone is positive throughout the book," Ma Jiali, one of the book's contributors and a researcher at the Communist Party School, told TOI.

"Only basic details are given about controversial issues like the border dispute. There's no attempt to instigate negative feelings about India," Ma said. "The South Tibet (Arunachal) issue is discussed as part of the border problem. But not in much detail," Ma added.

The purpose is to make available an official view of India, and avoid anti-India hysteria over the Chinese Internet during the forthcoming visit of premier Li Keqiang from May 19, sources said. Chinese scholars, journalists and blog writers, who have millions of followers on Twitter-like websites, are expected to take the cue from the official document and create a positive atmosphere during Li's visit, sources said.

The Blue book says that the Congress-led coalition government in New Delhi is facing its worst crisis because of internal differences and a string of corruption scandals. It also discusses the BJP and other political parties in India besides talking about widespread discontent and agitations in India.

The book, mostly written by scholars in Yunnan University and published in Chinese, was released in an official ceremony on May 10 during the recent visit of minister for external affairs Salman Khurshid to Beijing.

India's relationship with China and Pakistan are covered in a chapter on the country's foreign policy since 1947. Issues covered in the book include India's economy, educational system, the technology industry and rural development.

Although Beijing continuously complains about the United States creating an Asian front to contain China, the book does not suggest that India would become part of the US-led front.

"Issues like Kashmir and India's fears about China building dams on upstream Brahmaputra have also been discussed. But the main focus is to introduce the reader to the issues instead of instigating negative emotion," Ma said.

No media in China creates negative sentiment against India. Not the state media, not the private media.

Not due to friendliness, but rather because people aren't particularly interested in such news.

It's not profitable. The exact opposite of the Indian media, who have found a TRP goldmine in China scaremongering.

It's not profitable like anti-China news is in the Indian media.

Indian media runs by TRP. And I know India isn't important enough to be covered in Chinese media :P.

It's not about important or not. It's the same as anywhere else, they print the news that people are interested in reading.

The only things I see about India in the media are about BRICs, fast growing developing countries, global warming votes in the UN, etc.

Recently Indian media has become focused more on China obviously 'coz of that border incident. The angst is never against the Chinese but against our own leaders who have not been able to resolve the border issue for 5 decades.

By the way 2 days back I went to a Tibetan restaraunt in my city. Food was heavenly :D

Meanwhile India's response:

General Bikram Singh for early decision on raising Strike Corps in NE

Army Chief General Bikram Singh is understood to have pressed the government today for an early decision on a proposal to raise a Strike Corps in the northeast to meet any security threat in the eastern sector.

Against the backdrop of Chinese incursion, Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh is understood to have pressed the government today for an early decision on a proposal to raise a Strike Corps in the northeast to meet any security threat in the eastern sector.

This issue is believed to have figured when the Army Chief briefed Defence Minister A K Antony on the prevailing security situation along the Line of Actual Control in wake of the recent incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh, sources said.

The top Army brass made a presentation on the present security situation along the LAC in the aftermath of the recent Chinese incursion and steps taken by the force to prevent and handle such incidents, they said.

The meeting was also attended by top security brass of the country including National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma.

The Army has been pushing for a new Strike Corps to be raised along the border with China for quite some time now but it has been hanging fire due to one reasons or the other.

Under the proposal, Army wants to raise formations including new armoured divisions and artillery brigades along with the China border and the IAF has also been asked to deploy its new assets in support of it.

In the meeting, the Army officials are understood to have told Antony about the changes that have taken place in the security situation after the Chinese incursion and its impact on the Indian Army's capabilities to monitor its activities there.

The Army had to withdraw from its positions in Chumar area after the incursion by the Chinese troops in Daulat Beg Oldi sector and the stand-off ended after the two sides agreed to move back to the pre-April 15 positions.

Such a Strike Corps will increase IA's capacity to persecute NE peoples further. It will also enhance India's threat to us. In short she will become a greater bully.

With due respect to threaten BD the BSF , Coast Guard, CRPF & State Armed Police / Constabulary would suffice.

But the issue is why does BD have to interject itself everywhere - even where it does not figure or count ?
