The actual sales revenue of China's self-developed games in overseas markets totaled 11.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2019, up 21 percent year on year, according to the 2019 China Gaming Industry Report.
Chinese games made up nearly 70 percent of the market in the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea combined.
With the development of smart phones and 5G technology, more and more domestic games are spreading overseas.
China’s mobile games accounted for 15.8 percent of the overseas market, showing huge potential in countries along the Belt and Road, said a report jointly released by Chinese research institute Gamma Data and Newzoo, the world's most trusted and quoted source for games market insights and analytics.
Chinese game companies have developed high-quality products based on the demands of local customers. At the same time, the world’s gaming market is very inclusive and the customers’ preferences for games in some countries are similar to those of Chinese users, which has facilitated the development of home-made games.
China's game industry has grown stronger with a number of outstanding products, which has promoted the spread of Chinese culture, said Han Zhihai, secretary-general of the Mobile Game Entrepreneur Alliance (MGEA).
While continuing to explore the markets of economically developed countries and regions, Chinese companies need to cultivate game users in developing countries and those along the Belt and Road, said Xiao Yongliang, dean of the School of Arts and Communication, Beijing Normal University.
