China consumes 23% of the world's energy per year (see pie chart below). The United States consumes 17% of world energy.

Together, China and the United States consume 40% of the world's energy. It looks like a G-2 world. China and the US are the world's two largest energy consumers and have the best technologies.

During the 1980s, it was commonly said: "The US has 5% of the world's population and consumes 25% of the world's energy."

China has supplanted the United States as the world's largest energy-consuming country.

. . . .
Consupation, not consumption.
@Bussard Ramjet would agree

What does consupation even mean?

Also, as far as India is concerned, India's share of manufacturing and industry in total GDP is quite low. India still remains a service dominated economy, which makes it use relatively less energy.

You can check the spelling, very easy to figure it out if you really have high IQ.

I guess your service industry is functioning in the darkness unlike other service dominated country which also has very high energy consumption.

Yeah, got it.

I think no. For example, India's share of industry in its GDP is even lower than Japan, Germany, Korea, Thailand, etc.

Also, being a service industry is only one reason why energy consumption is low.

The others are:
  1. Poverty
  2. Energy access
  3. Environment (Unlike the whole northern China, India doesn't need heating)

Great. Another positive development is that energy efficiency is increasing. This means that more value is generated with less energy consumed.

As China is poised to become the largest e-vehicle producer and market, anticipate natural gas and renewable consumption to grow.
