BEIJING: China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation has confirmed a project to export eight attack submarines to Pakistan, top English newspaper of China People's Daily reported.

The corporation held a conference to discuss the details of the arrangement.

The corporation's chairman Hu Wenming, said the conference aimed to continue the spirit generated by Chinese President Xi Jinping's speeches on the Belt & Road Construction Work Symposium.

Reuters reported back in April that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the deal and called the deal could be "one of China's largest overseas weapons sales once it is signed".

The deal could cost between 4 billion to 5 billion USD, Reuters quoted a Financial Times report.

Four of the eight submarines will reportedly be built at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW) while the remaining four submarines will be built in China.

When being asked about the deal last year, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said:" China and Pakistan are neighbors of traditional friendship with close cooperation in various fields. The normal cooperation between the two sides in the field of military industry and trade is in line with their respective international commitment".

. .
I think the timing is quite interesting.

Now if India would cry about it, China can safely say, "hey, look at yourself first before whining".

. . .
The Agosta 90B program ran from 1994 to around 2007 to produce 3 submarines. India's Scorpene program entered production in 2009 and is expected to be complete by 2021.

Not sure how eight submarines over 12 years is "worse" ?

4 are supposed to be build in China right ? i have no doubt that China can roll out one Sub in a year time .. making them in home will take time .

.
Will Pakistan develop it's own AIP systems for these subs, And can Pakistan build attack subs like these at home?

.
project will complete in 2027 1st sub will be delivered in 2022 and rest will follow
hope we have enough strength to counter threats in upcoming days

Pakistan will import an AIP solution.

Pakistan cannot build submarines like this at home, not without undertaking significant capacity building in advanced metallurgy (for undersea applications), propulsion technology, sensors, etc.

How much would that cost (approx)?

Looking at that 8 subs in 12 years doesn't looks bad, but can't we build these 8 subs simultaneously at KSEW and in china!

A few billion dollars and a lot of time - perhaps decades - to fine tune and perfect our technology to a state where it can operate under sea pressure and be difficult to detect via acoustic sonars.

It will take some time to bring KSEW's capacity up-to-par. Not only is Pakistan paying for submarines, but it is also getting an actual manufacturing related training centre and China's latest submarine building infrastructure.

Ain't these subs will get outdated by 2024?
The mechanical attributes of a submarine - e.g. hull and propulsion - don't change much over a decade, they begin to show obsolescence over several decades, like 30 years.

Thanks. btw do you think by the time we get close to the delivery, can we demand more modern features akin to Chinese submarine tech considering how fast is technology progressing especially military technology?

Has PAK-NAVY discussed this part with Chinese in Agreement?
