China Conducts Test of New Anti-Satellite Missile

.
The Soviet Union had capability that China can't match even today. And you really think the US will just let China destroy US space assets without retaliation?

What wonderful capabilites of space that Soviet Union has that China do not now? Their mid course ABM is so inaccurate that they even needs to fit nuclear warhead to achieve the kill while China an exo-atmospheric collision using pure kinetic impact that demonstrated the accuracy that Soviet Union and Russia federation even now is not able to match.

.
How will the US retaliate if and when such circumstances arises by
A nuclear strike?

or

Destroying one of chinese satellites?

US has more to lose than China when comes to C4ISR. The whole US armed forces is based on tri serivice network 3rd gen warfare. If the network is down. So is the whole US armed forces.

China is still in the process of gearing towards network armed forces. It has lesser to lose if satelite network is knock out now.

so basically what you are suggesting is that US will not be in a position to respond?

Chi bot doesn't know.

Northrop Grumman Delivers New BACN-Equipped Global Hawk to Air Force Ahead of Schedule NYSE:NOC

Above is the response if satellites are offline. The concept has been in the works for over a year now. Basically, a Global Hawk equipped with electronics like satellites for relaying info.

As for your original question:

An artist's concept of a new way of removing unwanted satellites/debris. Just dump them so they loose orbital velocity and burn. I imagine one or two would go in the cargo bay of the X-37B.

Another, smaller concept:

I believe China respond is more to warning US. Remember when China joins Galileo projects, US give an arrogant warning that it will knock out Galileo if its available to China in times of war against them. Thinking China has nothing to do to US GPS. In fact, after that stupid comment. ASAT of China becomes reality in 2007. China are in fact giving US warning that they do will have the means to retaliate at US.

In case of US, Israel, Iran war. China Beidou II system is available to Iran. US will think twice about knocking out China Beidou system since China has mean to disrupt US capabilites too.

Communication will be up and that is easier but GPS will need a few point to increase accuracy which is difficult to emulate in short time once it out. All your precision ammuntion of JDAM and targeting will be useless if GPS is down.

All true, young padawan, but the JDAM isn't the only precision guided weapon nor was it the first. Now run along with your flawed logic and don't quote me anymore. I don't like stupid conversations where the other side doesn't know the basics.

If it can reach 10,000 kilometres, then this is the first step to creating a missile that goes even further.

China is developing a new form of warfare and this is very worrying for the US military that relies heavily on satellites.

With these tests, China is signalling in no uncertain terms that it is prepared to fight the US everywhere if needs be.

Please read post 1 and 14. DN can reach an altitude a lot more than 10K km up to GEO level

Our satellites are flying in HEOs and GEOs now

Correct. Only 3 countries can take down satellites in space so far

S Union (now defunct)blew off their satellite by distant explosiion

What we have done was precise kinetic kill.

Check out the american's recent performance on ASAT here:

On February 20, 2008, it was announced that the launch was carried out successfully and an explosion was observed consistent with the destruction of the hydrazine fuel tank.[11]

Experts debated whether the hydrazine tank would have survived an uncontrolled reentry. However, if it had, any human fatality would still have been very unlikely. Although hydrazine is toxic, a small dose would not have been immediately lethal. The chance of the (assumed intact) hydrazine tank landing close enough to at least one person for that person to be killed if he or she lingered in the vicinity of the crash site was about one percent, while the cost of the intercept was about $100 million.

The intercept, however, was widely interpreted as a demonstration of U.S. capabilities in response to the Chinese anti-satellite test a year earlier. The intercept was different from typical ASAT missions in that it took place at a much lower altitude (133 nautical miles or 247 kilometers) than would normally be the case, and the SM-3 missile as currently deployed would not have adequate range and altitude reach for typical ASAT missions in low-Earth orbit. However, the warhead was shown capable of hitting a satellite at orbital closing speeds.

Wrong, the US threatened to destroy Galileo if Galileo was used in an attack against the US. The threat was not China specific and its intent was to force the Europeans to use seperate frequencies for civilian and military .US Congress has withdrawn funding for projects that destroy satellites in space (due to debris). Since then the focus has been on in-theatre temporary reversible denial of service. So if the US wants to deny Iran the use of Chinese space based assets it will use ground based Counter Communications Systems that became operational in 2004. CCS uses ground based jammers for in theater denial causing no damage or loss of service to other users of the system.

The US battle effectiveness or the effectiveness of JDAM and precision munitions will not be degraded by loss of MEO GPS satellite constellation. Plan B involves the use of interoperable systems that belong to our allies, Plan C involves the use of hundreds of commercial LEO satellites. Plan D involves ORS launch of satellites by ICBM (MinuteMan missiles). Plan E involves the re-activation of LORAN systems that still cover most of the world. Plan F deployment of LOCATA that has been in exclusive use in White Sand AFB for several years.Of course if all goes to $hit we always have autonomous precision inertial navigation system such as PINS and TIMU drift corrected by PTAN that use digital terrain elevation data (DTED).

I'm too lazy to provide citations for the above but you can google LOCATA, DARPA PINS,TIMU and Honeywell PTAN.

the northrop's BACN is sub-orbital and serves different functions. It is never a GPS

Shoot down the janitors!

It's not meant to be a GPS, it is meant to provide additional functionality that satellites offer in addition to GPS signal. Stuff like command, control, communications etc...

Shoot down the janitors!

I challenge you to counter yourself, i'll provide you with two keywords: mini satellite and expendable.
What kind of a response would you write if you knew the two keywords apply to the "janitors". What would immediately be clear after thinking about it and an ASAT missile.

you better think twice before you desire to scoop up our satellites in space
