They make good money though, they don't only make money on their Chinese social media platforms, they also have channels on foreign platforms.
This guy from Wuhan city has his youtube channel, and get lots of fans by talking harshly about the government and average citizen's grievances. he made a video showing withdrawing $50,000 USD from his youtube account. He only speaks Chinese so his youtube channel is only for Chinese viewers same as his other channels on Chinese platforms.
Many brainless foreigners idiotically believe that Chinese can't access foreign sites, they just know nothing about China, tens of millions of Chinese are on youtube for different reasons, most of them are on youtube for watching new lease Chinese TV dramas cause on youtube they are free and in China people have to pay to watch them.
