Great Wall Estimate Angers South Koreans

China’s State Bureau of Cultural Relics announced recently that the total length of the ancient Great Wall of China is not 5,300 miles long, as has been claimed, but 13,000 miles.

The Great Wall was never a contiguous barrier, but rather a network of shorter walls built piecemeal by various Chinese dynasties. The most commonly accepted starting point of the wall had been Shanhaiguan, south of what used to be called Manchuria, which could mean that “ancient China” may not include the area north of the wall, including today’s northeast provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Helongjiang and any part of the Korean peninsula.

However, the new Chinese calculations extend the Great Wall well into northeast China to include the ancient Korean states of Goguryeo and Bohai.

South Koreans were outraged recently by Beijing’s new declaration of the wall’s length.

At the core of the outrage is China’s inclusion of wall structures built by Goguryeo and Bohai, whose territories are within China’s Liaoning, Jilin and Helongjiang, land many Koreans still consider their territory.

All leading newspapers in South Korea, including Chosun Ilbo and Dong-a ilbo, in recent weeks published commentaries with sharp condemnation and criticism of China’s announcement as a blatant misuse of history to justify future territorial expansion.

China’s Global Times fired back with an article quoting Lu Chao, a Chinese scholar at the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences who said: “It is ridiculous to say the Great Wall should not include the wall built by Goguryeo simply because it was built by Korean ancestors.”

While South Koreans are fuming over China’s new claims, the communist North, China’s regional ally, has remained conspicuously silent on the matter. Most of the disputed territories in this debate directly join North Korean territory.

Meanwhile, PLA conducts military exercises with North Korean army for crossing Yalu River to defend Pyongyang!

Chinese troops conducted river-crossing drills on Tuesday afternoon near Dandong on the Apnok River which separates China and North Korea. Around 100 Chinese soldiers partook in the exercise using six or seven small boats and around 10 pontoon bridges measuring 20 to 30 m to move troops and equipment across.

Locals said Chinese troops had conducted several such drills before and that exercises using pontoon bridges usually take place in the summer. The Chinese military exercise appears aimed at preparing for a swift entry into North Korea in the event of an emergency there.

Well, since you people call Koreans Gaoli Banzi(Korea Clubman), how can you claim Gaoli(Whose capital was none other than Pyeongyang) as China's own? Doesn't make any sense. And this is why world historians laugh at China.

Gaogouli was destroyed and absorbed by China. We can claim the entire history of Mongols, Jurchen and Tibetans by the same token.

wait few years and you'll see lines like "Gaogouli was China's sovereign territory from ancient times and they will remain forever under Chinese rule"..repeatition of SCS and Tibet chapter.and this time they will use nine dotted mark for this imaginary wall..best of luck South Korea..

That is "peaceful" rise of the dragon!!!
:) After we are done with them, countries like South Korea will be very "peaceful" indeed.

Did you not read the article? Indeed, Gaogouli was an ancient kingdom that happily joined the Chinese family 1500 years ago.

Gaogouli was destroyed and absorbed by China.
No, 90% of Gaoli residents were still in Manchuria and they built Balhae(Bohai to you), which bordered Bejing(Hence the sea next to Beijing is called Balhae Sea)

We can claim the entire history of Mongols, Jurchen and Tibetans by the same token.

":lol::lol::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:" - All the non-mainlanders around the world.

They originated in manchuria and have changed their capital multiple times.
And the final one being PyeongYang for the last 200 years. The residents of PyeongYang fled 100 km south, and then rebuild their country and named it, guess what? Koryo(Gaoli to you).

:) After we are done with them, countries like South Korea will be very "peaceful" indeed.
More like China would have lost a chunk of Manchuria.

Anyhow, calling Koreans Gaoli Banzi and claiming the ownership of Gaoli is incompatible and contradictory. But then again, nothing that Chinese claim makes any sense and is simply laughed at outside of China.

Nervous laughter is covering up uncontrollable fear

Now Pyongyang has agreed to join the Chinese family together with Han, Manchu, Mongol, Tibetan and Uighurs. It's time for a new star on our flag. To celebrate our new Choseon ethnic minority, we must take Seoul and reunify the peninsula!

By now, you should have realized that Chinese have a tendency to claim the history of others as their own.

It won't be long before Chinese start claiming Pakistan as a part of Chinese history for thousands of years.

Now Pyongyang has agreed to join the Chinese family together with Han, Manchu, Mongol, Tibetan and Uighurs.
According to Chinese reports, North Koreans mob floor with Chinese national flag. That doesn't sound like the actions of a people who like China, or even think highly of China.

baby steps to claiming more territory..

but one day the Hans(==chinese) will be pushed back to where they belong... behind the wall... and no one will alllow them to come out from there next time...!!
