China is inventing?! This video is from 2016, the US has already used autonomous SWARM attacks in combat.

This is a training video.

It also features air launched drones while CETC showed rocket deployable drones. It is harder to deploy large numbers of drones from the air than from a truck with a rocket launcher on it.

This is also only a small part of the new PLA doctrine.

Except 105mm gun doesn't have enough penetration to get through T-90MS' front armor. At the same time, Type 15's frontal armor won't be able to resist a 125 sabot round from T-90.

Now that China have reached this level of sophistication, this technology will offer a clear advantage to China over its regional adversaries for a while. Chinese are smart people and expected to develop credible tactics with this technology in the mix.

I understand and see value in Type 15 - it can be useful in a number of situations. Nothing to sneeze at.

The drone swarm is only part of the new Chinese doctrine which otherwise would have used manned aircraft but is otherwise the same: applying civil IoT principles to the military.

China just revealed details of its CH-901 tube-launched loitering munition, a portable killer drone that a soldier can carry and then launch from the field to track down and attack opponents. The Chinese are not the first in this area—the U.S. unveiled the Switchblade in 2011 and has used it in Afghanistan. But this is a big move for the Chinese military.

LOCUST was a much better developed system than CH-901 back in 2016 if WE are to draw a comparison.

The latest CETC showing indicate LOCUST level sophistication. However, this should not take away from significance of this demonstration in view of regional threat dynamics - clear advantage if you will.

No its not harder to deploy a large number of drones compare to a truck, because you saw just two aircraft deploy that many. It makes sense to deliver them closer to their targets than having a truck with not as much reach and rapid deployment to its target. Trucks can't travel over water by itself, so there are geographical limitations too.

the cost of the truck is much lower and swarm drones are better on land than in the water due to terrain.

on the water they can easily be shot down by camera guided CIWS and autocannons without worry, on land they can be obscured by trees, buildings, hills, etc.

the whole point of this capability is low cost.

Doesn't matter about the truck is cheaper platform to launch the drones when planes can do it better. Same thing applies to close to targets on land and water. Pretty much saturated attack against land or sea targets.
