China calls on Sri Lanka to 'protect and promote human rights' - The Hindu: Mobile Edition

China has called on Sri Lanka to “make efforts to protect and promote human rights”, amid continuing debate over the island nation’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).While calling on other countries to “provide constructive assistance”, the Chinese government, which has in the past been among Sri Lanka’s strongest supporters against the international community’s criticism following the end of the war, said it was important for Sri Lanka to protect human rights.

India cares about human rights, so India does not have enough toilets. To enforce a civilized way of defecation violates your human rights, so you should obey human's natural and biological need - defecate wherever you can, that's your freedom and "human" right

Congratulations. Your post contains more excrement than an open Indian sewer.

India not having enough toilets is basic governmental corruption, lack of priorities and culture at work.

If you had brought up the issue of minorities I would have agreed with you.

Next time when you post something, actually post something of substance and have a valid criticism.

I think that's too much to ask from the 50 cent Han Chinese army

Seriously, Chinese officials just need to shut the **** up. Recently, they botched up on many issues:
1. Aid to banana republic philippines
2. Indian IT call centers in SEZ
3. kowtow to world criticism of 100k by sending more aid to phillippines.
4. apprehensive of India's MARS probe success even though it's not indigenious indian technology.
5. Now this.

China says international community should offer constructive help to improve human rights in Sri Lanka

Nov 18, Beijing: China says that international community should offer constructive help for countries to improve their human rights through their efforts.

China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang said China holds that since national conditions of countries differ and levels of economic and social development vary, countries can have differences or even disagreements on human rights protection.

He was responding to media question at the regular press conference on Monday on what is China's comment on Britain setting a deadline for Sri Lanka to set its human rights record straight.

Britain's Prime Minister during a discussion with Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo last week has given an ultimatum for Sri Lanka to conduct an independent transparent and credible inquiry on the allegations of war crimes.

Describing the query as a "domestic affair" of the British Commonwealth, the spokesman said "What is the most important is that human rights conditions should be improved by the governments of countries concerned through their efforts." Constructive help should also be offered by the international community, he added.

In response to UK Prime Minister's hard-hitting stance, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said China has been upholding that on the issue of human rights, the international community should enhance mutual understanding and cooperation through dialogues and exchanges to jointly promote the international cause of human rights in a constructive way.

Sri Lanka's worsening human rights record has come into the forefront during the Commonwealth summit which was boycotted by Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam on the issue.

Sri Lankan President and his government as well the opposition have vehemently rejected the British PM's demand for an inquiry saying that the government has already set several mechanisms in motion to heal the wounds and reconcile the communities.

Chinese government is only saying it in light of its recent election into the Human Rights Council, its to please the critics. This is coupled with the top EU delegation that's in China meeting top leaders and seeking further co-operation.

When in reality, Chinese core position and interest in Sri Lanka remain unchanged, China will always take a non-intrusive stance on matters which doesn't interfere with her own core interests.

As for this being a lecture, hardly. China has always been about encouragement for progress and reforms, and never about negative reinforcement which is what you see from the west.

I already answered that in my post, read harder.

While western politics and foreign policy is plagued with conflicting domestic interests, Chinese view on world affairs in always uniform with the party's vision.
