Because at the end of the day, the psychology ring of self preservation comes first. You will take care of your interests before anyone else's if you wish to succeed in life. If you do the opposite and sacrifice your own interests for the other then you are not guaranteed a future.

As such , this Alliance would be ideal and quite literally dent the American plans for the reigion. As such, it will be a clash of the east and west but India's need to have "independent" thought may not allow this alliance to happen. By that I do not necessarily mean India's independent foreign policy but rather India's need to prove itself in competition with the Chinese and the west. While it helps in keeping a balance between a total alliance, it also prevents certain strategic gains from being made.

Be very clear about this... If India thinks that the west is going to milk its cow.. then they are in for a shock. The Arabs are only now learning this and that too most of them have not; the West does no milk cows.. it fattens them up...and then carves out its steaks to eat.

India is a tough case to explain like no other, India's foreign policy is analogous to kids family you knew in when you were growing up which had lots of brothers, they didn't have many friends but no one messed with them, because if you messed with them the whole family would come after you, had good defensive policy of not aligning themselves with anyone , always remained a pariah when it came to progress, leadership roles etc. Same is with India, policy will always remain regional centric "India first" with socialist undertones when it comes international affairs, will always remain dormant when it comes to taking any initiatives... I dont see India ever playing any pro-active role in international affairs with it's non-confrontational stance, which has it's merits and demerits...

i think the article is pointing towards an economic alliance or maybe just cooperation. Strategic it may sound, but its only economic. Look at SCO. All it has achieved is closer economic ties across asia. I think all the 3 countries should cooperate, and later others may join in slowly. Like EU. Pak should join too, and also CARs, and southeast asian nations.

In EU, an airbus plane is made across so many countries. Wings in one country, fuselage in another, jet engines in another. And then assembled in one place. Asians can do this too, and now asia is almost self-sufficient in its needs too. With trade with each other, the whole of asia can prosper.
