Don't know why your ancestors fought their own countrymen. But, On 1857 topic that you touched upon, it was started by Mangal Pandey (a Hindu Brahmin, in Meerut). Sepoys sided with Britishers were Sikhs, Gurkhas and " Punjabi Muslims" . Here is the excerpt from British source.

1. Off course...not going to Jail means one has never broke the rule and followed everything per constitution (from freedom movement perspective)....how can one be called as independent when you don't even disagree with British rules and constitution.

4. Yes I saw the social media news on Indians worshipping Trump...it was funny and stupid. But if I look at their foreign policy in general...they are smart... they are reaping benefits from everyone...Americans, Russians, Arabs, Europeans, Africans...you name it.
