What's new

China brings Star Wars to life with ‘laser AK-47’ that can set fire to targets a kilometre away

If this is true,.................then DAMN ! cant wait to see it hitting the global markets.

Those existed since mid last decade, I remember saw a program on discovery channel in 2007 or 2008 describing the new Direct Energy Non-Lethal Weapon.

Many of these weapon I think was later ruled unconstitutional in the US (Some make people sick, like physical sick) at a distant, some even temporary blinded people.

Here is an article from 2006, and you probably can know more.

I have no idea what become of the Direct Energy non-Lethal Weapon, and to be honest, I don't want to know either.

This seems to be more nasty than the even the dazzler. In fact I'd argue that it really shouldn't be advertised as "non-lethal" or less than lethal since it actually set cardboard/clothing on fire in the below demonstration (8:54).

Actually it reminded me of some of the DIY lasers I've seen on youtube only that it has a longer range because it has a better power source.

Either way it is not a good police weapon since it does physical damage to the human skin! Back in 2003 the U.S. developed the Active Denial System, which uses microwaves to heat up the human skin but the damage inflicted is not permanent. Not so sure about lasers.

lol, what I was saying is that direct energy non lethal weapon is not something new, the concept is actually quite old, if I remember correctly it was 1990s when the Army is looking to those stuff, as I said, not being a fan of those weapon, I have not check it, or research it after the initial showing. They may further develop it into something or they just ignore them altogether, I don't really care much about, that is not my cup of tea.
