Extract: The mother of China’s prime minister was a schoolteacher in northern China. His father was ordered to tend pigs in one of Mao’s political campaigns. And during childhood, “my family was extremely poor,” the prime minister, Wen Jiabao, said in a speech last year.
But now 90, the prime minister’s mother, Yang Zhiyun, not only left poverty behind — she became outright rich, at least on paper, according to corporate and regulatory records. Just one investment in her name, in a large Chinese financial services company, had a value of $120 million five years ago, the records show.

The details of how Ms. Yang, a widow, accumulated such wealth are not known, or even if she was aware of the holdings in her name. But it happened after her son was elevated to China’s ruling elite, first in 1998 as vice prime minister and then five years later as prime minister.

Many relatives of Wen Jiabao, including his son, daughter, younger brother and brother-in-law, have become extraordinarily wealthy during his leadership, an investigation by The New York Times shows. A review of corporate and regulatory records indicates that the prime minister’s relatives, some of whom have a knack for aggressive deal-making, including his wife, have controlled assets worth at least $2.7 billion.

Take that, Robert Vadra. Hindi-Chini indeed bhai bhai - I am sure Vadra, Gadkari et al wish they could just block news websites.

And to my lovely Chinese friends on PDF - how are you going to defend this act of not only brazen corruption but also blocking news?

.
These corrupt leaders have to be expelled in India no question about it. But these corruption expose pattern in China and India do match I feel.

.
Indian politicians are equally bad, but atleast (and this is not a china bashing comment, but a genuine one) I'm happy our media is free to bash them as much as they want.

No, they don't. China can not have an Arvind Kejriwal. It can't have a Tehelka or an NDTV. They would all probably be shot.

Exactly - imagine the outrage if the Congress banned CNN-IBN, TimesNow, NDTV et al after the Robert Vadra fiasco. Or Coalgate. Or Commonwealth Scam.

China, being a lesser evolved society doesn't question their masters - whether those masters are Emperors, Japanese or now the Commies. They like being ruled - most of them being simple minded peasants have not yet grown a backbone to question the State.

This is an asymmetric warfare which west is waging on India and China. They will use the loop holes of the government to create confusion and stop the economies.
I wish all the best for the forces in India who are defending this war from the west and US.

.
I wonder where the Chinese members are. Or it this page blocked too?

.
I have been hoping our government would block New York Times for ages now.

Every article in that paper on china is negative, literally every article.
Same with Bloomberg.

It's about time china got tough on foreign media, we don't need foreign media trying to cause friction between the party and the people.
It's a subtle way to destabilise the political system thus hurting the Chinese economy and causing global investors to flee.

This is media warfare.

.
$2.7 billion? that´s a lot. Can I have a million pls? I am too poor.

Right. So the 2.7 billion charge is fabricated?

. .
It's the fault of the government, they let in foreign media and now the government has to pay for letting in foreign media.

I really hope this article and the Bloomberg article on Xi bring some sense into our stupid leaders and kicks out ALL foreign media.

Kick out all foreign NGOs too.

We have been far too soft on foreigners trashing china, it's time to get tough.

Btw, regarding the wealth, I don't care as long as he made it legally.
More rich people in china, the better it is.
Rich people invest and create jobs.

.
Well, if he made it legally - then why bother blocking the news?

.
2.7 billion is peanut compared to 1.5 trillion dollars looted by indian congress.... And they still looting....

.
I am confused...
The article exposed a corrupt leader...:pop:??????
Soo i honestly like to know what chinese members here think about this...
Like do they believe this is a conspiracy and the leader is legit and true to his profession....
To be frank i dont know if he is good or bad???
Can some chinese member here shred some light on this matter?

LOL - you really think the Chinese here will ever criticize their own leaders? That too a sitting Prime Minister. They might be very keen to do so but to do it on an Internet Forum - lol - they would have some cops knocking on their doors. Perhaps even execute them. They don't even criticize the massacre in that square in Beijing - Tiananmen or something. They are never going to air their own views here freely. Thank your stars you live in a democracy.
