Really don't know why some VNess here is so arrogant, even VN export all your steels to China,it even can't satisfy one day‘s dosage. And I really tried very hard to find even one single production which made in VN or ID, but really sorry, none in daily my life.

You obviously don't know the best rice in China comes from northeast China.

Chinese iron ore imports break record at 112.7 million tonnes
in Dry Bulk Market,Freight News 12/08/2020

China imported a record 112.7 million tonnes of iron ore in July, just shy of 10m tonnes above the previous record. July thereby marked the fourth month in a row that iron ore imports exceeded the corresponding month the year before. In the first seven months of the year, iron ore imports are up 11.8%, or an additional 69.5m tonnes, which is the equivalent of 300 extra Very Large Ore Carrier loads (230,000 tonnes).

The Chinese appetite for iron ore, and thereby rising demand for shipping, has boosted Capesize earnings which averaged USD 24,500 per day in July. The Chinese iron ore import price in July averaged USD 97.1 per tonne, a rise from June but below the price in July 2019.

“The reversal of previous years’ trend to use scrap metal instead of imported iron ore is puzzling and the growth in steel production doesn’t explain the higher imports. Are they simply stockpiling while tensions with Australia grow?” asks Peter Sand, BIMCO’s Chief Shipping Analyst.

The record-breaking iron ore imports go against expectations given the slowdown of the Chinese economy as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Steel production in China, for which iron ore is a primary ingredient, is up by 1.4% in the first six months of the year. After two years in which the growth in steel production has been far higher than that in iron ore imports, the reversal which we have seen so far this year is puzzling.

The increased iron ore imports without a corresponding increase in steel production is likely driven by several factors, including supply disruptions to domestic scrap steel, limiting the use of electric arc furnaces and therefore increasing the share of steel being produced with domestic iron ore.

China becomes net steel importer in July for 2nd month in a row

Singapore — China became a net importer of steel for the second consecutive month in July, despite crude steel production rising 9% year on year during the month, according to customs data released Aug. 26.

China may remain a net steel importer in August, but could return to being a net steel exporter sometime in the fourth quarter, market sources said.

China imported 2.46 million mt of semi-finished carbon steel products in July, comprising mainly billet and slab, up 4% from June. Added to finished steel imports, it took China's total steel imports in July to 5.06 million mt, surpassing July's steel exports of 4.18 million mt, customs data showed.

The steel imports in July were mainly from orders placed in May, when the Chinese domestic steel demand rebounded strongly, as the infrastructure and property construction sectors were boosted by monetary and fiscal stimulus.

At that time, other markets were still under lockdowns or recovering from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, making China a very attractive destination for steel, sources said.

Exports improving
However, since July, China's steel import orders have slowed, while export orders have improved.

This is because overseas markets have gradually resumed operations, while the Chinese domestic demand has been dented by rains, floods and high temperatures, market sources said.

Orders placed since July will be shipped from September onwards.

Some market sources said they had barely seen any import orders for semi-finished steel recently, while export orders for flat steel products had improved since July, and wire rod export business had also fared better since August.

"Our clients in Southeast Asia have begun to purchase wire rod again since August, and orders received in August recovered to around 40% of the normal volume before the coronavirus outbreak hit the global economy," one mill source in eastern China said.

Moreover, China has tightened its monetary stimulus and strengthened restrictions in the property sector since July, putting downward pressure on the Chinese domestic steel market in the second half of 2020.

Some sources said there will be more opportunities for China to export steel in H2 2020 than there was in the first-half.
