This will cause them to form an alliance against China by keeping their personal differences aside. A major diplomatic blunder I would say considering that USA still has huge presence in the region and would back anyone who opposes China.

A blunder as it may be. But you have to understand China simply can not afford the islands to fall into the hands of Japan. National integrity and sovereignty plus internal politics direct CCP to fight for the islands at all cost. She'll be called a traitor of Chinese people if she doesn't do so.
