Beijing Applies for World Heritage Status for Monuments

Beijing Applies for World Heritage Status for Monuments
2012-08-03 14:14:45

An unnamed official at the Culture and Heritage Commission of Dongcheng District said Thursday that the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and Monument to the People's Heroes had been recommended as candidate heritage sites in a renewed plan to apply for World Heritage Site status for the historic complexes along the city's north-south axis.

Beijing began the official application process last year, but the previous plan only covered buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties along the 7.8 km-long axis that links Yongdingmen Pass in the south to the Bell Tower in the north.

I don't understand why the Chinese authorities feel that a site that commemorates Chairman Mao deserves a UNESCO heritage site. It's like applying Stalin's statue as a UNESCO heritage site.

(vi) "is directly or tangibly associated with events or living traditions, with ideas, or with beliefs, with artistic and literary works of outstanding universal significance" - Fail

Oh, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall's Mao's grave, then it has no cultural value worthy of preservation what so ever. Lenin's grave would be far more historically worthy but Russians aren't applying for that since they know better.

The UNESCO world heritage site was not created for a obvious political propaganda like this, and this petition will be rejected without a question.

The next world heritage site applications if this one goes through.

Oh, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall's Mao's grave, then it has no cultural value worthy of preservation what so ever. Lenin's ........

And Korean made up 90% of those "non-mainlanders".

I don't blame Koreans seeing it as a "fail", since Mao doubled the number of Koreas. It's not like Koreas' says are "anything" to the world. As half of it is being ruled by China, and the other half by the US.

Get lost Korean!

Well, there are a lot more things Koreans don't understand, since they're only allowed to do what the US approved.

World Heritage site to a dictator that killed millions?

world heritage site to man that kicked the imperialist white dogs and Japs out of china, then kicked the pro-western KMT out of china and restored our country, kicked the americans arse in korean war, spanked and humiliated india, stood upto the soviet union, got some of our islands back by whipping the little viets.
