China aims to become world technological power by 2049

What factors contribute to these uncertainties do you have in mind for a more realistic prediction? India's large population surely isn't an issue with plenty of graduates.

Technological advancement at the highest level takes time. I think Chinese have realistic time period but I personally feel reduce 5to 10 years. by 2040, 2045. Chinese are good in planning and they will achieve it sooner than their target.

BTW it is already been considered for UCAV project, Railway authorities etc. How many nations have built their own engines ? Handful.

I agree with your post on the first part. India will be up there in R&D too. Asia is where R&D will happen.....so China, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka will become innovation hubs (granted if there's stability there).

As far as the engine's concerned, "considered" doesn't mean anything. I took my car and built an F-22 out of it. I consider it to fly hypersonic one day even with four wheels and a steering and car seats.....let's see how my 'consideration' actually works in real life

They 1st need to make a working jet engine...

The J-11B, J-11BS, J-15, J-16 and the J-10B are all flying with the WS-10A turbofan engines.

China is famous for three things - Copying, Stealing and Contract manufacturing…whatever they have achieved today is based on these three pillars… I don’t understand, how can they aim to become tech power..perhaps they are planning to clone genius from US-Europe to get the work done…

and the most imp thing, how many of you believe that there will be a china in 2049???

I beg to differ. Kaveri is a jet engine with enough thrust for aircrafts like UCAV. Twin engined UCAV is also a point of consideration. I don't know why Railway is interested in Kaveri but they must have pretty strong reason for it.

Indian researchers are not that idealistic and I think pretty much realistic.

I don't agree with analogy.

In certain areas they are already at par with west..I think it'll take only 15-20 years for china to be known as second to none in technology.

I think India will take atleast 45 to 50 years to make up to top five technological pwoers, but US and China will be the one to look forward to. In case of India, the uncertainity is too much which is not in case of China which makes it easier to predict relatively by the people.

The most advanced tech will be US, China and possibly Russia (given their economy can support) with third one little behind. Money will play a higher role and the Chinese graduates, the next generation will be Chinese driving force.

The level of India by 2040-2045 will be similar to level of China by 2030.

Leap frog effect and steep learning curves sometimes make things completely different.

I am always skeptic of such further predictions like India surpassing China's economy by 2050, they seems too far fetched as the data available is not sufficient to make such kind of predictions.

A decade ago, no one would have thought China kicking Philippines and US left its ally in the battle.

I think India should focus more on Infrastructure. Get everybody basic life support, trust, India's man power is much more than what you think. Thats from my real experience in China. Get a better economy is the first step.

To be a world technological power , China will need most of the R & D being done in Universities and the Private sector, like say Japan.

The parallel approach is the key. India is investing a trillion dollar in infrastructure development and you are right about economy, these developments will definitely improve the condition. There are many things India can learn from China, especially in manufacturing sector and skilled and technically more knowledgeable workers.

But at the same time we can't afford to lag too much behind, whether its space, military, advanced tech etc. All major countries are either developed or developing very fast like China, taking one thing at a time will just widen the gap.1

Buddy look at well known, high impact factor International journals, you will find Chinese every where. Their rate of growth of research and development is way higher than us. That's why I said 2040-45, I won't be surprised if it happens few years earlier than the deadline.

I agree people bash India about our research programs but leave them as it is, we have built ur super computer many years ago, we can do this too. The knowledge transfer and technological development is easier when you have a basic architecture prepared and operational.
