Mongols conquered everyone, not only China, and China put up the toughest fight against Mongols unless countries in in central Asia and Europe. PRC was founded in 1949, PRC only fought couples of wars in Korea, India and Vietnam. Japan invaded China before PRC, when China was busy fighting civil wars and every province was an independent country, dozens of warlords of different provinces waging wars repeatedly against each other. My friend, Mongolia even owned up to Ukraine 800 years ago. We are talking about modern history aka the 19th century when colonialism started in full swing and when the concept of nation states start to appear and boundaries defined. ROC/PRC is the successor state of Qing empire, and we were forced to cede a lot of territory to the Russians and UK. Hence we are just reclaiming lost land.
