GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) through a unanimous resolution has called for the federal government to take urgent steps for the release of over 50 Chinese wives of GB men detained in neighbouring Xinjiang province of China.

Over 50 citizens of GB, most of them affiliated with import and export businesses between Pakistan and China, are married to Muslim women in Xinjiang province. The Chinese police have arrested these women.

The resolution was tabled by lawmaker Bibi Salima during the ongoing GBLA session on Friday.

It says that the citizens of the two countries frequently visit each other’s countries via the Khunjerab Pass. There are also many cases of intermarriages between the people of GB and Xinjiang province in which rules and laws of the two countries were followed.

But, the resolution says, last year the Chinese police had started arresting those Chinese citizens who are married to foreigners and among those who have been taken into custody are the women who have married to Pakistani men.

It says many children belonging to GB families have been suffering because their Chinese mothers are under detention in Xinjiang province.

The resolution has demanded that the federal government take up this issue with the Chinese authorities.

Speaking on the resolution, Pakistan Peoples Party member Javed Hussain said that the history of intermarriages between the people of GB and Xinjiang province was decades-old. He said in many cases women under detention in Xinjiang province had travelled to China with their children who were now in China without any help from their families because their fathers were in Pakistan.

He urged the federal government to urgently take up the issue with the China government.

GBLA Deputy Speaker Jaffarullah Khan said that many of these women were arrested on suspicion of their links to religious extremist groups when the Chinese government launched a crackdown on elements involved in religiously-motivated acts of terrorism in Xinjiang province.

But, he added, no one from these women had been found involved in acts of terrorism in China.

The resolution says that the GB is the gateway to Pakistan-China friendship and its people have historical, traditional and cultural relationship with the people of Xinjiang province.

It says the GB people have always respected and provided hospitality to Chinese guests during their stay in the region. They have also played an important role in joint projects launched by the two countries in GB, including Karakoram Highway which has now been declared a route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

It claims that Chinese workers and engineers working in the region have never complained about local people and no untoward incident with Chinese citizens in GB has ever been reported.

The resolution says that the Pakistan-China relationship has become strong due to border trade between the two countries through GB.

But it makes no difference in PDF. No one will complain if China robs steals kills as many Pakistanis as they like. Its Pakistan's strategic imperative to stay silent and point fingers at whomsoever is the current traitor/enemy.
Good luck
Then GoP should take up the issue with China and get it resolved because it is true then it is not acceptable. They need to behave properly.

If China & Muslim atrocities, cat will catch Pakistanis tongue even if Pakistani involved, that's no issues. Justification will start.
No the cat will not catch the tongue. I have again and again celebrated China for the way it deals with religious extremism. Indeed the way deals with the Islamists is the perfect panacea that needs implementing in Pakistan. The only problem is in Pakistan we have a corrupt elite whose only interest extends to plunder and corruption. That is why Pakistan is the mess it is. The fact in Pakistan we have a serious problem with extremism that has eaten away at society and country. The rampent religious display of piety is just a fraud as we can see it has not produced a better or safer or more moral country. Pakistan is more corrupt, more prone to crime then it was 50 years ago. Mullah power has done nothing to improve society but done everything to make Pakistan notorious as bigoted, lawless terrorist infested country where young men can be torn limb to limb on the slightest excuse.

So the only hope here is that China helps to tame the religious madness that has taken root in Pakistan. That would bring even more dividends then CPEC. With specific regards to this chances are these women are related to or appeared to be radicals. Of course Pakistani women can get married to radicals and nothing will be done about it. But this is China. Efficiency and robust procedures are in force so they took action. Big deal. I mean Pakistan is not in a position to complain. We had to raise army divisions to protect Chinese workers. What does that say about the state of security inside Pakistan. The Chinese want their country to remain one of the safest places on earth. So they are proactive. I am with Chinese 100% with this.

Excuse me .. I posted it cause I found it important not cause I'm anti china .
Any Pakistanis know this is a fake news. You shall exercise some of your Pakistanis common sense. So you are telling us Chinese came across any balochistan news or Pashtun discrimination/independence news which sounds BS can also be posted in Pakistan forum?

Voice of America , a proven CIA funded NGO. And you even got the cheek to claim it’s important. Soon it will reported China wiped out all Muslim in China and I can bet you will claim its important too without checking the real source properly. There is a reason why Pakistan cannot prosper under US influence for so long with people like you who are easily manipulated just by a few propangada news.

What if it is true?
If it is .. than GOP should get involved and demand the release of the women.. who are now de-facto Pakistani citizens.

Apart from that G-B also has a 50k Uighur population..

However Im a bit suspicious because such a big news would have been picked up by Pak/national or local media outlets or even social media..

Enuff for me
The fact that China treats their Muslim population as 3rd class citizens, falsely accuses them, limits their religious freedoms, restricts their right to practice Islam, jails them into gulags etc. has been an age-old issue written by several different publications worldwide. The very same publications which you quote articles from when it suits you.

How is it you are a part-time Muslim gatekeeper and warrior on these boards? You will ignore the Muslims plight in China but become the gatekeeper of all things Mulsim outside of it.

VoA is the media arm of the central intelligence agency.
Most certainly not. I can tell you that with certainty being an American citizen. It's more to do with the state department. We see where the budget comes from and is allocated to.

Whatever happens in China and India is their internal affairs.

Pakistanis do not claim to be the defenders of Islam or of Muslims you know.

. .
You sure about that?
Show me where Pakistanis claim to be defenders of Islam or Muslims.

Show me what the state ideology of Pakistan is. We may be an Islamic Republic, but we don't claim to be the defender of the world's Muslims.

1. Palestine ring any bells?
2. Not recognizing Israel ring any bells?
3. Keeping troops in Mecca and Medina ring any bells?
4. Kashmir ring any bells?

Personally I do not care about Palestine. This is not our problem.

Pakistanis should stop playing the Ummah card, unless the Arabs reciprocate.
The Palestinian cause is not a Muslim cause.

It is between the Arabs and Israelis.

Any Muslim country can keep troops in Makkah and Medina. Makkah and Medina is for all Muslims.
