China’s friendship with Pakistan is time tested. One is indeed beholden to it for yet again coming to get us out of the energy crisis. On Wednesday, a team of Chinese engineers, including Chairman of the Three Gorges Project Corporation Cao Guangjing Jang offered full help to overhaul our energy sector through launching wind, hydel and solar projects. President Zardari conferred Hilal-e-Quaid-i-Azam on Mr Cao Guangjing for the services he has rendered for Pakistan’s power sector. It is worth mentioning that the Corporation is working on a number of electricity generation projects in the country. The new ventures that have been agreed include the Bunji Hydroelectric project with a generation capacity of 7100MW, Kroat project with 720MW and a 120MW power plant in Taunsa. Simultaneously, another delegation of Chinese businessmen and technical experts met Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh and offered to immediately invest $15 billion in our energy sector. This is a reassurance that our friend is there to help us in the time of trouble.

China’s construction of Three Gorges Dam, the largest in the world that produces 22,500MW of electricity is rightly lauded as a feat of human engineering. It is, therefore, satisfying that we will have at our disposal the same talent and expertise that gave birth to this wonder of modern technology. The competence of the Chinese in building this dam contrasts sharply with our rank procrastination in going ahead with the construction of Kalabagh Dam that has been in limbo for decades. The pity is that Prime Minister Gilani who himself confessed that had there been Kalabagh Dam the destruction from floods would have been on a lesser scale has not done anything to make it a reality. We must waste no time in seriously examining the Chinese offer that promises to bridge the gap between supply and demand, and also go ahead with the construction of Kalabagh Dam.

.
Its truly business my dear friend... They are not doing charity... I hope you are intellect enough to understand the word "Investment" ..

@3Gorge Dam: That is possible only in China. In India or Pakistan people will go on protest (massive Displacement and ecological hazard)...

@true friend: USA is your true friend, USA (not china) has given you many grants (not investment) to improve your social status. USA had given you F16 of which you are so proud of. I feel ashamed to see this ingratitude ... USA has poured billion of dollars (Grant) to pakistan, still you guys hate USA. while china has done nothing that sort of (instead killing uingher Muslim), still you love them...

Is it because China is enemy of India??? enemy of enemy is friend????

. .
That what we want...True Business and Investment...:)

Then the title is misleading.... "China : A True Friend Indeed " ... Businessmen are not friend and foe, they are just businessmen.. the title must be simple "China planning to invest x billion dollars in Pakistan" ...

Friends are those people who help you without expecting any profit... who help you when you are in need... I will give you an example of true friendship...
1. When a pshyco general tried to capture Maldeev, india sent her troop to tame the pshyco...
2. Russia helped Cuba when Ameirca orchestra "bay of pig" drama...
3. India is helping Afghan brothers to rebuild their country...

.

U.S. Aid is a carrot on a stick for Pakistan. Its puropse is to make Pakistan Uncle Sam's personal donkey.

China does not want Pakistan to be a donkey dependent on aid, that is why China is investing in Pakistan and giving us business that will help build Pakistan's economy. That is a true friend.

Well, Pakistanhave very few choices in case of friendship. You will hardly find nations who really wants to be friend of Pakistan. As a Western expert said, "It si better to have problamatic friendship with Pakistan than a hostile one"

1950 - Pakistan becomes third non-communist country, and first Muslim one, to recognize China.

1951 - Beijing and at the time Karachi established diplomatic relations between themselves in the month of May
.

There is nothing special on this

1978 - Karakoram Highway linking mountainous Northern Pakistan with Western China officially opens.

Chinese business friendly move, nothing else

1980s - China and US supply help through Pakistan to Afghan guerrillas fighting Soviet occupational forces.

Pakistan was 'used' here

1986 - China and Pakistan reach comprehensive nuclear Co-operation Agreement.

1996 - Chinese President Jiang Zemin pays state visit to Pakistan.

1999 - A 300-megawatt nuclear power plant, built with Chinese help in Punjab province, is completed. China is helping to build a second 300-megawatt nuclear plant due to be finished by 2010.

Move against India-Us friendship and nulear treaty, Foe's foe is my friend.

2001 - A joint-ventured Chinese-Pakistani tank, the MBT-2000 (Al-Khalid) MBT, comes into full production.

Pakistan has no real other choices, other tanks are either expensive or not available.

2002 - Chinese Vice Premier Wu Bangguo attends ground-breaking ceremony for Pakistan's Gwadar deep-sea port. China provides $198 million for $248 million joint project.

2003 - Pakistan and China signed a $110 million contract for the construction of a housing project on Multan Road in Lahore[28]

Again, Chinese friendly biz projects.

2007 - Sino- became Pakistan's biggest arms supplier with no strings attached, a true "strategic partnership".

No other choice or lack of funds, still trying to buy US F-16 as much as possible.

2007 - Sino-Pakistani joint-ventured multirole fighter aircraft - JF-17 Thunder (FC-1 Fierce Dragon) is formally rolled out. 2008, Pakistan starts mass production of the aircraft.

Again, no other choice than Chinese machines apart from monetory constrains, but getting F-16s in lower rates.

2008 - China warns US of war against Pakistan, during which former president, Pervez Musharraf, visits China, Musharraf raised issues of US attacks inside Pakistan.

Not heard about it realy, source.??

They wants to open up to Asia/middle east thru Pakistani port, noyhing else

.
Ok man, use them, US did it in 80s in Afganistan.

You think we are so powerful that we can just "use" other countries?

And anyway, "use" them for what? Fighting Russia/India/Taliban? No thanks.

This might surprise you, but we're more interested in economic development.

Pakistan can help us enormously with this, via resource routes through Gwadar port and the Middle East.

And we can return the favour, by helping them with their development too.

Indians always hated the Pakistan-China friendship from the start.

One should ask these Indians who are their friends? Israel? Russia?

Thanks for your concern indians

But we are more than happy with China as our true friend :china:

They have every right to. They are the ones who provided $198 million for $248 million joint Gwadar Port project.

Its called mutual benefit. If China gets an easy access to the Middle East through Pakistani ports then it will be of no harm to Pakistan, it will only benefit Pakistan because our ports will generate more business, and more business means better economy for Pakistan.

Countries who are investing in Pakistan and giving Pakistan business is helping Pakistan more than the carrot-on-a stick approach of the U.S. that only benefits thieves like zardari.
