Tantrik sacrifices 9-year-old
A nine-year-old boy was allegedly sacrificed by a tantrik (religious man dealing in the occult) in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, about 250 km from here, for a hidden treasure.
The victim, identified as Santosh Kumar, had been missing for the past two days, and all efforts to trace him proved futile. A missing persons report was also lodged at the local police station, according to sources.
On Thursday, the police were informed by some people about a badly mutilated body lying on the bank of a small river in the Shergarh area of the district. It was later identified as that of Santosh by members of his family. The body had been half buried in the soil and also bore injury marks. There also were articles like incense sticks and vermillion in the pit that had been dug to bury the body, indicating that some sort of ritual might have been performed there, said the sources.
Cops later detained a tantrik, identified as Babu Ram, a resident of Shergarh, on suspicion of sacrificing the child. During interrogation, Babu Ram admitted to killing the boy. He said he was searching for a hidden treasure and his guru (teacher) had told him that he would get it only if he sacrificed a child, said police officials.
The tantrik had lured Santosh on the pretext of giving him some sweet, and then had kidnapped him. A case has been registered against Babu Ram and he has been sent to jail.
Policeman arrested for human sacrifice, skeletons recovered
A senior constable was arrested in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on charges of trying to sacrifice two girls, police said Friday.
According to police, Munnilal, a senior constable, was arrested and two girls were recovered from his house on Thursday. The parents of the girls said the man intended to sacrifice the girls, and had tied their hands and legs and performed tantrik rituals over them.
Police sources said 11 skeletons were recovered from the house of Munnilal, who was arrested and interrogated.
The two girls, Seema, 7, and Choti, 4, were daughters of one Umesh Yadav. They were playing outside their house Thursday evening, when Munnilal allegedly took them to his house by offering them chocolates.
When girls did not return home till late evening, their family started searching for them, and found them in Munnilal's house.
The family of the girls said Munnilal was getting the children ready for sacrifice to goddess Kali.
