ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani today visited the line of control (LoC) to assess the security situation in the wake of violations of a ceasefire in the region over the past few weeks.

Kayani visited Kotli sector of the Line of Control, an area that has witnessed heavy exchanges of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops.

Official sources said the powerful army chief visited the LoC to personally assess the security situation and to be briefed by top commanders.

Kayani also met soldiers posted along the LoC and appreciated their bravery, the sources said.

Despite a truce put in place along the LoC in November 2003, intermittent skirmishes have continued along the heavily militarised ceasefire line.

The situation heated up on August 6, when five Indian soldiers were killed in an attack by Pakistani troops on the Indian side of the LoC.

Since then, both sides have accused each other of violating the truce. At least four Pakistani soldiers, including a captain, have been killed in recent weeks.

The tensions on the LoC have affected bilateral ties even though back channel talks are on to restore normalcy.

Very interesting move in the whole scheme of things. Shows some intent and gives a message that the top is watching over the situation.

Good to see the new uniforms also deployed.

this much i will say for the FG, he is always available for the troops, swat, dir, bajaur, LoC - unlike our 'elected' Prez (Supreme Commander of armed forces) the PM & the Defence Minister have been shamefully absent from motivating the troops.

you know, use of artillery amounts to war!

Than let it be war by the Kiyan is doing speech right now in Baluchistan and saying that we have increased number of Baloch in the Army but also said that we just made it easy I mean just eased some hard tests so they can get more people from Baluchistan I don't think that is the right move yes more baluch should be part of Army but not by reducing the set standards @Aeronaut @DESERT FIGHTER @Imran Khan @Leader @Oscar @nuclearpak @Icarus @Xeric and others

Its a timely decision. Atleast if not the bureaucracy then the doors of the army are open for them. Whether they pass staff college is upto them. Excellent decision.
