Muse,

The americans want to play a game of chicken---pak millitary has more to lose---americans played chicken with the taliban----taliban love to play chicken and they love to play sheep as well----.

The problem in pakistan right now is that we have top three leading personalities with no spine-----Zardari is corrupt ---and so is Gilani----no ballz----the third power player is just running around trying to finda medium where there s no confrontation---.

Musharraf found someone who could give him cover and protection at time of distress---not someone who could lead us through this mess.

but it is said that Pakistanis know a thing or two about US personality types, that the US and tribal Pashtuns share a personality trait, and that is that unless you DEMONSTRATE the will to not just challenge them but berate and knock em down, they just can't get themselves to respect you

Also, I think that Pashtuns and Americans share a value of revenge until satisfaction. That is, the USA WoT continues until our American sense of "justice" has been satisfied. Pashtunwali and Amerikawali share some similarity of obsessiveness.

Its a politically motivated article the writer just don't like jia ul haq or musharraf.

And a another conspiracy theory i must say.
Who is Jia ul Haq?

Pashunwali and Amerikawali share some similarity of obsessiveness.
Both would appear to have caused similar levels of destruction, chaos and casualties as well ...

American sense of "justice"

An American sense of justice has today, like the goal in Afghanistan, morphed, it is elastic, whereas Pashtunwali is not - Revenge is for fanatics and revenge has held the Pashtun back from achieving great things - only a smart and powerful political leadership in the US can save the US from the Pentagon's sense of Justice and revenge. Just how American values morphed into the value system of a tribal group, history will judge.

Gen Kayani warns of ‘hot pursuit’ to curb cross-border attacks

Army chief warns CENTCOM chairman against unilateral military action in North Waziristan Agency
Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani demanded on Saturday a halt to repeated cross-border terrorist attacks into Pakistani territory from Afghanistan and warned that Pakistan Army would eliminate the “miscreants” responsible for these assaults no matter where they were if NATO and the Afghan army did not take any action against them.

Gen Kayani was discussing defence and military ties between Pakistan and the United States in a meeting with US Central Command (CENTCOM) Chief General James Mattis in Rawalpindi on Saturday. Sources said the meeting lasted for over an hour, in which matters related to recent US allegations against the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) regarding the Haqqani network, bilateral relations, cross-border attacks from Afghanistan and the deteriorating Pak-US relations were discussed in length.

Gen Kayani made it clear to Gen Mattis that the series of baseless allegations against Pakistani security agencies of having ties with the Haqqani network should come to an end as this could affect ties between the two countries. However, the focus of deliberations remained the recent US allegations against the ISI, blamed by American officials – most notably the formerly sympathetic Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen - for running a “proxy war” in Afghanistan and exporting terrorism to the embattled country through the Haqqani network.

NO NORTH WAZIRISTAN OPERATION: “General James (Mattis) once again asked for an all-out military operation in North Waziristan against the Haqqani network allegedly based there, but General Kayani told him that as of now that offensive is not possible,” said a security official here, requesting anonymity. “The army chief also warned the top US military official against any unilateral military action in North Waziristan, saying that such a move would have catastrophic repercussions for Pakistan-US cooperation in the fight against terrorism,” the official added.

He said another important issue that was raised by General Kayani during the meeting was that of recent cross-border attacks by Taliban militants in Chitral and Dir from Afghanistan. “Pakistan believes that the NATO and Afghan National Army (ANA) are doing nothing to stop these attacks,” the official said. “General Kayani warned if the attacks continued and there was no prevention on the part of NATO forces and Afghan troops, Pakistan Army would take it upon itself to eliminate these ‘miscreants’ wherever they were found,” he said.

General Kayani also demanded a joint investigation into the cross-border attacks, he added.

if anyone has taken a 'personality' test, then i would rate Kiyani as a Introvert, Sensing, Thinking and Judgeing type (ISTJ). he is no norman swarzkopf who was a Extrovert, Risk taker type personality. both these qualities are good in the military sense. Kiyani 'planned' the swat operation and took his time, and when he finally took action, the results were better than expected. something has told him that NWA is a 'no go'. and if the americans are 'hell-bent' on destroying the haqqanis, they should post/place a division of their troops right across the afghan/NWA border and wait for the haqqanis to cross the border and take them out.
by the way eisenhower, marshall were 'quiet' types but were successful military men. patton, mcarthur were like stormin norman. it works both ways.

If Kayani is reluctant to risk his troops in a risky area to fulfill a need of Americans, why not allow Americans to come in and do the job for you.. That is if the intent is really to reduce risk and not protect the Haqquanis

easier said than done - they also know the risk of losing brave american soldiers just like we do - it would be a 'political suicide' for the US admn. the american people will come out in the streets when the body bags of dead american soldiers are repatriated back stateside. in an operation in NWA, on stands to lose upto a 1,000 soldiers and 3,000 wounded!!! - is that worth the price when the US is going to bug-out in 2 years.

Once the US is allowed in Pakistan then they will do the operation whereever they like; in pursuit of terrorist. Today in NWA, next month south waziristan, after that gradually to Islamabad. The reason will be very simple: we are in hot pursuit of terrorists, we are allowed by GOP to track them. Nothing will remain safe. I hope you understand now.

It is Pakistan army that allows drone attacks and lets see what develops from the corps commanders meeting -- If the pakistan army come to the decision that they will risk their soldiers in NWA - What then??? Who in their right mind will not believe that the army is as much in the pockets of the Firenghi as the politicians are?

And if the Pakistan army decides that enough is enough, will they still trust kayani and his special friendships and private conversations with visiting foreign, Western, US servicemen.

RAWALPINDI: A Corps Commanders’ over-the-top meeting with Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in chair Sunday hashed out the latest Pak-US rift at length, brushing aside all the blames US slapped on Pakistan, Geo News reported.

The meeting, which lasted for several hours, zoomed in on security affairs vowing a befitting retaliation to any cross-border incursion.

The military top brass also agreed upon letting the political leadership of the country in on the decisions taken for which General Kayani will very soon hold meetings the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Corps Commanders gave all the national security issues a 360-degree reckoning.

Truthseeker,

No sir, they don't---they are totally dissimiliar in application----whereas the pushtun will not care for his self or for his family and any consequences he will face---the americans will think and will have GOD involved in their decision making---the pushtun on the other will just be seeing red----God is not a part of his revenge. Simple killling is all he wants---the americans will do it for the sake of right and jesus christ.

Muse,

Jesus christ---born again christianity---talking to god---god talking to them---self righteousness of the "christians"---the american christians-----the religious fanatcism and fundamentalism is well and alive in the american politics and military.

DAMN. What an audacious statement. Millions of muslims have been killed since 9/11 in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan combined. Hope American sense of justice is fulfilled soon.

The real issue is not the emotional aspect as represented by TS -- The real issue is that there is now a severe dysfunction in the civil - military relationship in the US and given a weak president such as Obama, this relationship has gone further south - Obama faces a disillusioned and worried populace, and his re-election, well, I am a betting person and unless the Republican shoot themselves in the foot, he's history but he still cannot get himself to set the relationship straight - he would have used the Osama killing to his great advantage and instead choose otherewise.
