In chess, I've noticed that it's usually players from Russia, US, India, China(more recently) certain countries associated with former Soviet Union and some individual players from Europe (Carlsen, Norway) that dominate the game.

Is there any specific reason behind that?

Chess is a brilliant strategical game that I used to play quite a lot but now I'm out of touch. Sometimes, I follow chess events and there are a lot of young India prodigies (Sarin and Pragnanandha) who have the potential to make it big.

I haven't watched the Netflix series but I heard that it has made chess even more popular across the world.

You should play it more often, it's a good game and makes you think.

I play chess frequently on chess.com and some of my games the computer says 90% of the moves are same as the best computers in the world. It's a natural game for me won championships when I was young but got bored of it and stopped playing for a long time. I play for fun now with wild openings, the ratio of times is 5:1 i.e the other player takes 5 times or longer to make a move compared to me. To be at championship level you got to have patience and look ahead in detail for every piece. That's great if you have nothing better to do with your time lol.

I used to play a lot on chesscube and I was better at rapid games where you have a limit of 5 min or 1 min. Had touched a rating of 2000 in that category but couldn't hold on it. Now, the website has unfortunately closed down.

I haven't created an account on Chess.com yet but might open one in the future.

Chess.com is great! Join it, you get to play people from all around the world. I love thrashing Indians and Israelis, lol.

It was the same with ChessCube where you got to play with anyone from around the world. I checked the Chess.com page and the interface looks nowhere near to the one ChessCube had...

The fide world chess tournament is taking place at the moment in Russia.
Telecast Starts at 6 pm everyday on YouTube.
India has 12 participants. 2 eliminated in 2nd round. 2nd round is still on.
Bangladesh had 2. Both eliminated in 1st round.
Pakistan had zero participants.

Yes, I read in the news that Pragnanandha created an upset. Adhiban and Sarin have gone through I think

Watch the telecast on a 65" oled. Its a different experience all together.
Our main players are praggannandha, nihal . Both are 17 years old GMs in the 2600s.
The super GM's in the 2700s - gujarati, harikrishna carry too much baggage and never progress far.

Adhiban is doing well but early days yet.

My rating is 1500 on chess.com

Why, what's so special about that?

Gujarati is a good prospect, Harikrishna is the kind of player who plays good but doesn't manage to win anything.

I can't watch the full game after clicking on the link. It's not going beyond the 1st move.

The game in the comment is working fine but the moves don't match up with the one that you've posted.
