Funny how this happened just a few days after Trump abandoned Obama's regime change policy in Syria. Because there aren't any other countries in the region who would have a vested interest in a new US war on Assad. Are there?
Trump and the security apparatus are divided on many issues and the war in Syria is one such thorny issue. I would go as far as saying that both are undermining each other. This is evident from division related to domestic and external matters.
Having said that, we all know that for the Obama status quo Syria has become a stain they cannot undo. The Syria fiasco will go into the history books as a dark US chapter.
Those that are trying to pin this on Assad have lost all credibility. They arm rebels and blatantly interfere in the affairs of a sovereign nation for their personal political gains. What we are witnessing today are just crocodile tears.
