Seriously....? As far as my memory goes, I can't recall any power cuts during 1998-2007.The work is in progress of course and I never claimed the power cuts are over. They have just reduced to minimum since past 20 years or so.
In another words you are trying to say that your nearest memory starts from 2007 onward...Seriously....? As far as my memory goes, I can't recall any power cuts during 1998-2007.
No. My nearest memory is 1998. And there might be some shortage but it was never like today's. Even today while there is winter, there is 10-12 hours loadshedding in my hometown in southern Punjab. In another words you are trying to say that your nearest memory starts from 2007 onward...
Back in 90s there was famous culture in Pakistan that people used to sit outside their home, near the door and talk to neighbours due to no electricity. It used to happen every evening and children like us used to play hide and seek in the neighbourhoods running pass the families sitting in those narrow streets. The moment you stop, you would start sweating so most of the games involved a lot of running
The availability of water was so scarce that I remember people used to say that the water will be available 1 or 6 hours a day (sometimes 7am in the morning) and if there was no electricity at that time, you are doomed. Pakistan always had load shedding but it just became worse between 2008 to 2014.
There was no AC back in the days, our total exports were around 2 billion dollars... and now if we are exporting goods worth 25 billion dollars, small but the industrial sector has increased manifold. The average consumption per capita of electricity in household is about 70 units, compare it to industrial sector's per capita of 4800 units...No. My nearest memory is 1998. Sir, I was arguing the fact that "They have just reduced to minimum since past 20 years or so." which haven't as per my experience. There was no AC back in the days, our total exports were around 2 billiom dollars... and now if we are exporting goods worth 25 billion dollars, small but the industrial sector has increased manifold. The point is we started off with 60mw in 1947 and enjoyed surplus in the 1980s due to tarbella and mangla hydropower projects but still you could say that half of Pakistan was deprived of electricity until few years ago.
Even now in 2016 only 67% population is getting electricity... so there was never a time in Pakistan when everyone was able to get electricity
May be in your town... perhaps...Sir, I was arguing the fact that "They have just reduced to minimum since past 20 years or so." which haven't as per my experience.
I live in a metropolitian. So I know the current situation there as well. If you make 2008 the reference point then claim of less load shedding looks justified but suggesting current situation to be better than previous 20 years is......May be in your town... perhaps...
But not for rest of the country..
There are still many areas which lacks electricity as they never received any connection so far... I remember during Musharraf's era there was a lot of criticism that Wapda gave 7.5 million new connections and didn't add any electricity. The point is 7.5 million connections is like 20 million people may have got electricity for the first time in their life even if it means with plenty of loadshedding.. so they are better off with loadshedding than never having a connection
Not really. Even in other areas like FB area, Gulshan, North Nazimabad etc are also not seeing much power outages. These are the most populated areas of Karachi.
