Not a very debated issue, but it was in suggestion to the present government, who considered shifting Capital city of the Federation back to Karachi, probably to avoid the undue influence and interference by country's establishment...

Karachi was chosen as Capital of Pakistan by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah,

but later dictator Ayub shifted it to near GHQ pindi, and the new town was named Islamabad in 1962... since then its the capital of Pakistan...

what you guys have in mind, should it be shifted back to Karachi ? why and why not !!

Karachi was the only city decent enough to be the capital at the time. It had minimum violence, and was still developing.

However, the reason Islamabad should be the capital is because that way it's on neutral territory. It isn't be part of any province, but a territory on it's own. Also, Islamabad is right near the GHQ, which is obviously better than having it right next to the sea, open for attack.

Also...Islamabad is far more beautiful and cleaner than Karachi; it gives off the European feeling unlike Karachi, which is overcrowded, over polluted etc.

Edit: If you check out the capitals of all federal countries, they're located on separated "federal/national territories": India's New Delhi in the National Capital Territory; USA's Washington in the District of Columbia; Australia's Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory; Brazil's Brasilia in the Federal District etc. Similarly, Islamabad is in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

1. The senior most PA officer at Partition Gen Akbar Khan (of ASC, not the RWP Conspiracy one) had submitted a paper to Jinnah wherein he had suggested Chittagong to be the capital. He had given some good reasons for his opinion. He had assumed Pakistan to include the Muslim dominated Andaman-Nicobar Islands and Arakan which was around 80% Muslim. He had reckoned Assam and Tripura would be part of the country. Therefore, the major part of Pakistan in population, resources, and area was to be the Eastern wing.

2. In the present Pakistan the geographical center and at a safe distance would be the abandoned British hill station adjacent to DIK. (Sorry I forget the name). The area west of the Indus would get an uplift and the Pashtuns and Baluchistanis would be better integrated.

3. However, Pakistan can ill afford to bear the expenses of a shift.

the capital city is proclaimed the federal territory, like karachi was federal territory before and previously islamabad was part of punjab province now federal territory

the new capital should be in balochistan so that the province will get progress and prosperity

why not make Quetta capital for once?

its just my opinion, i respect other peoples opinions too.

No, that's an interesting point of view. I've heard a few people say that just the other day, switch the capital to Quetta to make the Baloch happy
It can work out though, Islamabad can be the Summer capital and Quetta the winter capital or something. Stuff like that does happen in a lot of counties

@Asad71 has the best points! Make capital toward the geographical center of the country--in America a lot of time that happens to facilitate movements of people.
Islamabad is beautiful and surely more 'centrally' located than Karachi. But Islamabad is sort of an aloof city. As the saying is: "Islamabad is only x miles from Pakistan". (okay, forgot what is 'x'--but something like that).

Oh, ANYTHING but Karachi! It is already too crowded, too violent, and we sure don't any more traffic jams because of the (even more) VIP entourages.

Islamabad is absolutely fine

There is no need to keep changing your capital. Biggest advantage to Islamabad is that it is not part of any province. Nobody can say Punjab is doing this n that because the capital is located in Punjab... or Sindh is doing that because of this n that

Karachi is the worst city in Pakistan right now. I don't know why any would think of moving the capital back again.

If capital is switched back to Karachi, then MQM will also be rushed out and Karachi will be prosperous once again.
